Dr. Valentine graduated Cum Laude from BYU in 2001 and completed his medical school years at Tulane, graduating in 2006. He returned to Utah for his final six months of medical school due to Hurricane Katrina in 2005. He stayed in the West and spent a year doing hospital medicine as a medical Intern at the Veteran’s Affairs Hospital in Boise, Idaho. Following his intern year, he returned to Tulane to complete his Ophthalmology Residency. During his time at Tulane, he was heavily involved in various ophthalmic fields that allow him to maintain a wide range of high-level surgical abilities. In this way, he has been able to provide care in cornea, pediatrics, oculoplastics, retina, glaucoma, uveitis and cataract.

Primary Care
The purpose of primary eye care is to promote and maintain healthy vision throughout your lifetime. This can mean a variety of things depending on your age and health. Primary care begins with a complete eye examination during which your eye doctor looks at every part of your visual system. This includes examination of the externals including your eyelids, eyelashes, and tear glands as well as the cornea, lens, and retina. The goal is to ensure that each part of your eye is healthy and to detect any problems as soon as possible.
Family Practice
Brad Trask, O.D. is a graduate from MCPHS University College of Optometry. He completed his Bachelor of Science from the University of Maine at Presque Isle where he majored in Biology with a focus in Pre-Med. Dr. Trask completed his clinical externships in a variety of settings including private practice, family health centers, and the Veteran’s Administration at VA Togus, Me. His training includes management of glaucoma, macular degeneration, and other ocular diseases, primary care, working with ophthalmology in post-operative care, and contact lenses.
Emergency Care
Dr. Chin specializes in community-based primary eyecare services which include comprehensive and diabetic eye exams, glaucoma management, prescribing of contact lenses and glasses, and urgent care. When Dr. Chin is not working, he is an avid board gamer and enjoys spending time at the beach with his family.

Glaucoma
Glaucoma is a disease that causes damage to the optic nerve, resulting in permanent vision loss. Often referred to as the “sneak thief of sight” because of its ability to go undetected until permanent damage has been done. Our doctors at Vision Care of Maine stress the importance of routine eye examinations, as this is the only way to detect glaucoma in its early stages.
Ophthalmology
George B. Peters III, M.D. is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Born and raised in Eastern Maine, he graduated from Boston University’s Biomedical Engineering Program with high honors. After earning a graduate degree in Maine, he went to medical school in Vermont, completed his internship in Maine, and his ophthalmology residency in New York, where he was also appointed Chief Resident. Dr. Peters then embarked on an extraordinary course of subspecialty training.
Macular Degeneration
Optical Coherence Tomography OCT – This test uses light waves to take cross section pictures of your retina, lens or cornea. It allows the doctor to examine the layers of each part of the eye to identify abnormalities such as macular degeneration.

Cataracts
Let’s begin with some basics. A cataract is the clouding of the natural lens in the eye. If left untreated, the lens will continue to go from clear to cloudy until eventually, no light can pass through the eye at all. For the most part, cataracts are just another sign that we are aging. The longer we live the more likely it is that we will develop cataracts. Over 20 million Americans over the age of 40 have cataracts.
Cataract Surgery
Being told that you have cataracts is no longer bad news. In fact, it may be an opportunity to see better than ever. In the past, the goal of cataract surgery was to safely restore vision. Today, we can do that and more. In many cases, you can customize your vision to suit your personal situation. Great vision up close, far away, and everywhere in between is possible without glasses or contacts thanks to cataract surgery.
Eye Exam
The first step to ensuring that you protect your vision is having a complete eye examination. How often you have an eye examination depends on your age and general health. As you get older (55+) it is important to have a complete eye examination at least every two years. Your eye doctor will tell you what is best for you. If you are a diabetic, you should have a dilated eye examination every year. We encourage you to call and schedule an appointment at any of our offices throughout Northern Maine.

Internal Medicine
After completing his Internship in Internal Medicine at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, he returned to Tulane University, where he successfully completed his Ophthalmology Residency in 2012. He was awarded the 2012 C.S. O’Brien award for the best basic science research project by a resident. After finishing his residency training he completed a Vitreoretinal Fellowship at Tulane University under the direction of the prestigious and world-renowned Vitreoretinal surgeon, Dr. James Diamond.
