General Info
Shell + Meyer Associates has been providing structural engineering consulting services to its clients in the Dayton, Miami Valley, and Ohio region for almost fifty years. Shell + Meyer Associates, Inc. had its beginning when Richard G. Shell started his own structural engineering consulting firm in October 1962. Prior to establishing his own firm, Richard Shell worked as a structural engineer first for the U.S. Government at Wright Patterson Air Force Base and then at the Dayton architectural firm of Yount, Sullivan, and Lecklider. The original buildings located at Kettering Medical Center, Miami Valley Hospital, and the terminal buildings at Dayton International Airport are just a few of the many projects Mr. Shell designed in his career. Richard A. Meyer joined the firm in 1969 working part-time while earning a Bachelor's of Civil Engineering Degree at The University of Dayton. In 1972 Richard Meyer graduated from the University of Dayton and in 1977 he received his Professional Engineer's License. For the next decade Mr. Meyer designed many structures including new buildings for Miami Valley Hospital, the University of Dayton, and Wright State University. Richard Meyer became a partner with Richard Shell in 1987 and the company was renamed Shell + Meyer Associates, Inc. On January 1, 1992 Richard Shell stepped down as President of Shell + Meyer Associates, Inc. and transferred ownership to Richard Meyer. Richard Shell continued working as a senior consulting structural engineer providing the firm with extensive knowledge obtained throughout the years. In November 2006, Mr. Shell passed away ending a more than fifty year career as a structural engineer. Phil Ruscillo was hired as a senior structural engineer in 1995 and became Vice-President of Shell + Meyer five years later. Mr. Ruscillo graduated from Purdue University in 1984 and brought with him to Shell + Meyer his design experience from working with consulting firms in Pittsburgh, Chicago, and Dayton. Among Phil Ruscillo's noteworthy projects are the University of Cincinnati's College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning ( DAAP ), James S. Trent Arena, The Glen at St. Joseph's, and various Centerville City School projects. Christopher R. Meyer, Richard Meyer's son, began working full-time at Shell + Meyer after graduating from The University of Dayton in 1998 and is currently Treasurer of the firm. Chris Meyer's projects include the design of buildings for Cox Arboretum and Gardens Metro Park, Girl Scouts of Buckeye Trails Council Urban Campus, and many local fire station facilities. In 2002, Shell + Meyer Associates hired Aaron Allen as a full-time Quality Control manager. His efforts have not only improved coordination of documents within our own firm but also between our firm's and our client's. Today the employees of Shell + Meyer Associates continue the commitment that Richard Shell began by providing its clients with quality structural engineering services.
