Charlei Coffey is a certified nurse-midwife who graduated with a dual degree from Georgetown University in 2021. She received her nursing degree in 2017 from Belmont University and worked as a labor and delivery nurse at Northside Hospital Forsyth for 5 years.

Kidney Stones
Overflow incontinence happens when your bladder doesn't empty all the way. This causes too much urine to stay in your bladder. Your bladder gets too full, and you leak urine. This form of UI is most common in men. Some of the causes include tumors, kidney stones, diabetes, and certain medicines.

Urinary Tract Infection
It is not hard to find a female patient who has suffered from a urinary tract infection. In fact, UTIs are quite common in women, with around 50-60% of women experiencing at least one UTI in their lifetime. Women are more prone to UTIs than men, in part because of the shorter distance between the urethra and the anus, which makes it easier for bacteria to enter the urinary tract.

Urge, or urgency, incontinence happens when you have a strong urge (need) to urinate, and some urine leaks out before you can make it to the toilet. It is often related to an overactive bladder. Urge incontinence is most common in older people. It can sometimes be a sign of a urinary tract infection (UTI). Minimally Invasive Surgery
Minimally invasive surgery includes any surgical procedure that uses advanced tools and techniques to reduce how large an incision must be. Many minimally invasive surgeries use specialized robots and cameras to let doctors perform intricate procedures in hard-to-reach and compact areas of the body.

Laparoscopy
After laparoscopy, D&C, hysteroscopy, and cervical surgery, there is frequently a vaginal discharge and/or spotting that will last up to 2 weeks. This is normal and part of the healing process. If it is more than a normal period, call your doctor for further instructions; otherwise, use a pad rather than a tampon.
