Wellcare Medical Clinic

I met Dr. Simon C. Wong through our mutual friend, Carlos Reyes. Carlos knew that I was in search of a new primary care physician and highly recommended Dr. Wong and the Wellcare Medical Clinic in Coral Springs.



As a bariatric weight loss patient of Dr. Paul Wizman in Coral Springs, I needed a doctor who could see me on my terms and without long waiting room times. I hate lines and was working through some health insurance issues and needed someone who could care for my medical needs on a self-pay basis without robbing me.



Dr. Wong became that doctor.



My first visit to Dr. Wong lasted a lot longer than I expected. Although I was seen almost immediately upon arrival, I had to complete a ton of new patient paperwork. The office staff made this very easy and assisted me every step of the way.



My first visit included a full-physical (without the finger wave) and numerous blood tests. Since my old records were just that - old - they were of little use to Dr. Wong. With the exception of emergency treatment, it had been years since I'd been to the doctor.



Dr. Wong fully explained himself every step of the way and fully noted himself on a tablet he carried. I was advised that I looked "pretty good" for someone who had lost 180 pounds through weight loss surgery but that further discussion would be had upon he return of the blood and urine results.



Upon my return to the office a few days later, Dr.Wong advised that most of my results were quite normal with the exception of one area - an iron deficiency.



It turned out that I had grown anemic - quite anemic - following my bariatric surgery and massive weight loss. Dr. Wong then went on to explain what anemia was and the fact that I would have been given a blood transfusion had I ever been wheeled into a hospital unconscious.



It was further explained that I had grown into my condition following the weight loss and that although I looked pretty good, I was actually quite sick.



At the end of our visit, Dr. Wong gave me a Vitamin B-12 shot and prescribed several different vitamins and a few medications to get my blood in order. I was scheduled for another visit in 30 days for follow-up blood work.



Before the 30 days elapsed, I broke my wrist in several places. First time I ever broke a bone in my life, but things happened. Following a visit with my orthopedic doctor - Dr. Peter Tomasello - it was determined that surgery was required. I was sent for pre-op surgical clearance.



Rather than use the hospital in Hallandale, I made an appointment with Dr. Wong in Coral Springs - clear across the county.



Dr. Wong fit me in the same day. Between the required EKG and chest x-rays, etc., I was good to go as my blood work was only two weeks old.



Following my surgery the next day, Dr. Wong called to make sure I was okay.



I highly recommend Dr. Simon C. Wong and the Wellcare Medical Clinic if you are looking for a new doctor or need medical care. I'm writing this review still wearing my cast, but good service requires notice.
