Overall
Relocating to Ohio

It is sometimes an objective person willing to be accepting of new people and cultures that can give you a fresh perspective on a place. After traveling, and relocating to several states due to my job; I was able to get a sense of the pros and cons of Ohio. I lived in Columbus for 3 years and I have noticed several key things about Columbus as well as Ohio traveling throughout it. Economically, there are a lot of displaced workers and hungry people are not always the happiest people. Culturally, it is as diverse from one corner of the state to the next. Accents and ways of life are as diverse from the northern part of Ohio to the southern part. You will meet decent people, but more often you will meet people that are complete scum. It is not limited to the poor, several “substantial” or people that claim to make a decent living are equally close minded. The folks that appear to be making a good living have a sense of entitlement that makes their overall personalities reek. Ohio needs strong charactered, moral people that are willing to treat people decently to take leadership. Corruption in politics, business dealings and everyday life is commonplace in Ohio.

There are decent restaurants and the cost of living is great. That being said, if you are not a native you will find that many folks in Ohio are not the most approachable. There seems to be a real problem with a large collective group of people that relish in poor behavior and find it entertaining to expose everyone around them to it. It felt like being an idiot was idolized by a large collection of people that live there. Sometimes when you live in a place and have not removed yourself from it; it can be difficult to accurately assess a place in relation to others. In fact, you probably can’t.

As any place has its faults and its good points, I can comfortable warn anyone that is not from Ohio that you will find it extremely difficult to adjust to the lifestyle there. In fact, you will be bewildered by how people handle themselves and interact with you. Ohio was probably a great place to live during the heyday of factory work and new inventions. The stagnant overall economy has definitely impacted the people and like a virus it seems that it may have spread to the decent people there as well. Who feels good living in the blight of extreme poverty? and if you are not living in it…seeing it and it forcing it into your life is equally painful… Long story short…if you are not from Ohio…save yourself the aggravation and pain that my family and other families that I know that have relocated there and avoid it. As far as football, Ohio State has a good consistent team. Unfortunately, a good football team does not put food on the table for most of the folks there……Ohio needs to have a major attitude adjustment and make major changes…because this State is broke and damaged….
