The average DSW store is approximately 25,000 square-feet and covered wall to wall with 30,000-plus pairs of shoes in more than 2,000 styles. DSW was founded in 1991. Though the footwear retailer opened with a warehouse format, DSW has evolved into an upscale shoe retailer that offers name-brand shoes at up to 50 percent off department stores regular prices. The first DSW store opened in Dublin, Ohio, but more than 180 locations can be found throughout the United States, including Columbus, Ohio. DSW stores offer footwear and accessories in men s and women s styles, such as designer dress, casual and athletic. DSW also makes shoes for kids. Retail Ventures became the holding company of DSW Shoe Warehouse in 2003. In July 2005, DSW made an initial public offering, leaving Retail Ventures with more than 60 percent of common shares in the company.
