Dental Examination
A. Yes! Regular check-ups with your general dentist are important during orthodontic treatment. Your dentist will determine the intervals between each oral exam while in treatment. If Dr. Brockman sees the need for additional cleanings, he will refer you.

Fluoride Treatment
A. Patients should brush their teeth (and aligners) at least four times each day – after each meal and before going to bed. Its important to put your aligners on clean teeth. We will also show you how to floss your teeth with braces, and we may provide a prescription for a fluoride treatment, if necessary.

Orthodontic treatment is not only designed to improve your cosmetic appearance, but also to improve the health of your teeth and surrounding structures. By seeking orthodontic treatment as an adult, you can decrease the progression of gum disease, provide adequate space for implants or cosmetic crowns, avoid severe irregular wear of the tooth enamel, and decrease jaw pain. With surgical orthodontic procedures, we can correct an improper position of jaws, facial bones, or teeth. This is a team approach with an oral surgeon or plastic surgeon.

Brush your removable appliance every day as a part of your regular brushing and flossing schedule. Because food particles and plaque can accumulate on your appliance just as they do on your teeth, soak the appliance daily. Dissolve a denture-cleaning tablet in a glass of tap water at room temperature, and soak your appliance once a day.
