Teeth Cleaning
That starts with regularly removing plaque from teeth. Plaque is a sticky film of bacteria that covers teeth. After eating, that bacteria converts sugar to acid. The acid then attacks the toothâ€™s hard outer shell (enamel). Repeated attacks eat through the enamel, causing a hole or cavity. Brushing and flossing correctly twice a day, along with routine dental cleanings, can prevent this from happening.
Fluoride Treatment
Benjamin Franklin once said, â€œan ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.â€ This is particularly true in dental health. Our hygiene department concentrates on preventing both tooth decay and gum disease for a lifetime of good health.
Dental Sealants
Around age six, children typically see their first adult molars appear. At this time, our office recommends sealants to prevent decay on the chewing surfaces of teeth. A sealant is a plastic material applied to the pits and fissures of molars. The plastic acts as a barrier to acid produced by bacteria.

Fillings
Direct restorations are most often used to replace areas of decay. We remove the decay and place the material where the decay resided. Composite resin fillings depend on bonding the resin to the tooth, whereas amalgam fillings depend on the shape of the cavity.
Resin Composite
Veneers can also be fabricated with composite resin. This is a technique where the material is placed in one visit, and then it shapes to the tooth. This option is less costly, but they can stain and chip more easily that porcelain veneers.
Veneers
A porcelain veneer is a thin shell custom-made to fit a tooth. Veneers are strong, natural looking and resist stains. They correct teeth that are stained, chipped, crooked, misshaped or have large gaps between them. The treatment process involves shaping a tooth on its visible side, making room for the porcelain material. An impression is taken of the teeth, and the veneers are constructed in the laboratory. They are then attached to the tooth using a resin material.
Crowns
Some teeth may require a more extensive restoration to achieve a pleasing look. All-ceramic crowns are now stronger than ever. Plus, they virtually disappear in the mouth because light is transmitted off them the same way as tooth enamel. Our in-office laboratory can match the shade of surrounding teeth prior to making the crowns to ensure a perfect complement.
Bridges
For one missing tooth, an implant is a single tooth replacement and does not involve altering the surrounding teeth. Alternatively, two or more implants can support permanent dental bridges when new teeth are securely fastened to the implants.

Root Canal Treatment
Endodontics is the branch of dentistry that deals with the internal nerve system of a tooth, known as the root. Years ago, diseased teeth were typically pulled. Today, many teeth can be saved with root-canal therapy. Root-canal therapy is when a dentist removes the infected tissue inside the tooth and cleans the canals of the root. Depending on the tooth, it can have one canal or multiple.

Periodontal Surgery
If the pockets do not heal after scaling and root planing, periodontal surgery may be needed. The dentist performs a surgical procedure whereby she may contour the underlying bone and stitch the gums more closely to the teeth.
Deep Cleaning

Dentures
For individuals missing many teeth, our office can fabricate a â€œpartial dentureâ€ that is removable and fits snuggly onto the remaining teeth. There are different styles of partial dentures, ranging from flexible plastic to lock-and-key Vitallium metal.

Why get a dental implant(s)? An implant helps prevent bone loss due to the absence of a tooth, and it can help maintain gum height. With an implant, both of these effects can cause the appearance of aging as well as difficulty eating and speaking. Additionally, implants are a life-long solution to tooth loss and help keep other teeth in position.

Tooth Extractions
Not all teeth can be saved by modern dentistry. Sometimes we must remove a tooth or teeth with a process called an â€œextraction.â€ If decay has consumed the entire tooth or a tooth is loose due to gum disease, it may be better to remove it.
Bone Grafting
Prior to extracting a tooth, we work with patients to determine how to replace the tooth. This is also helpful in determining if a bone graft is beneficial to build up the bone in the area. Bone grafting material acts like a scaffold,Â and mineralized bone will eventually fill around the graft material.

Orthodontics
Dr. Vessel and her team offer orthodontics for adolescents and teens. She also offers limited orthodontic treatment to adults.
Braces
Malocclusion is the term used when the upper teeth do not fit the lower teeth. A malocclusion may be just tooth related but is often accompanied by malformations of the upper or lower jaws. If caught early in life, this skeletal problem can be treated with removable appliances or braces or a combination of the two. This prevents later problems with breathing disorders such sleep apnea.

Teeth Whitening
First, our office may suggest a whitening treatment. Over-the-counter whiteners do not match the power of professional teeth whitening systems. We offer in-office whitening using the Philips ZOOM system, which takes about an hour to whiten up to six shades. To do this, the dental professional places a protective barrier on the gums, and then applies the whitening gel directly on the teeth. The patient sits under a specialized light, which acts as an accelerator to break down the gel and fight stains.
Cosmetic Dentistry
Indirect restorations are a staple of cosmetic dentistry and include full ceramic crowns and veneers. Because all-ceramic restorations do not contain a metal understructure, they transmit the color of adjacent teeth, giving them a chameleon-like quality. Both the shape and the shade of the tooth can be changed by using crowns and veneers. Additionally, ceramic crowns can appear to alterÂ a toothâ€™s positioning.
