I called and explained to John that my truck was making an incredibly loud noise that ONLY happened when it was driving and that I thought it sounded like it might be the muffler but that I didnt know. John said bring it in and he would find out what the noise was. Instead of taking it for a test drive, even though I stated that it only made the noise while driving, John put it on the lift. After a visual examination he pointed at different parts of the exhaust and said the noise was coming from everything from the catalytic converter to the connection to the engine and that it would cost $750. Assuming they knew what they were doing I agreed to the fix. They took no time in swapping out the parts that were supposed to be causing the noise but when I picked it up the noise was still there. The owner of the shop, Pete, then took it for a test drive and discovered the actual noise problem, it was the shield that protects the gas tank rubbing against the rear universal joint, not the $750 dollar exhaust. Now I am out $750 and I still have to get the noise problem fixed. The least they could have done was refund the labor charge considering it was their mistake to begin with. They should have test drove the vehicle, and by not doing so it led to the visual misdiagnosis and a $750 waste of money for me, but a profit for them.
