Clearwater Pediatric Care has adopted several policies to create a "Medical home" environment for our patients and their families. The concept of a medical home was initiated by the American Academy of Pediatrics in the 1960s. As newer technologies have become available many medical organizations that assess the quality of medical care have begun to further define what constitutes a medical home and have implemented certification processes. We are in the process of being recognized by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) as a Patient Centered Medical Home. As you visit the office you will see several initiatives that we have undertaken that help us achieve the requirements of the medical home. Primary Care
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is an organization of 67,000 primary care pediatricians, pediatric medical subspecialists, and pediatric surgical specialists dedicated to the health, safety, and well-being of all infants, children, adolescents, and young adults.
Smoking Cessation
Clearwater Pediatric Care will conduct surveys periodically and ask that you answer thoughtfully as we use your feedback to guide us toward quality improvement that is important to you. We will also run reports to see how we are doing on recommended services like lead screening, immunizations, cholesterol screening and counseling for smoking cessation and obesity prevention with the goal of continuously improving our performance. We may choose subset of patients with complex medical conditions, patients that may have mental and behavioral health issues and patients with social determinants of health to be included for extra attention to improve the quality of care provided. Family Practice
After retiring from the United States Army with over 20 years of dedicated service to our country in Afghanistan, Rich returned to an academic setting to complete his master's of science in nursing from South University in Tampa. Upon completion of his studies, he gained Board Certification as an Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner in Family Medicine. After his graduation, Rich worked in a pediatric urgent care clinic and primary care pediatric office in St.Petersburg for two years before joining our practice in February 2020. He believes that patient-centered care involves knowing and understanding the patient in their family setting and enjoys collaborating with parents on the best possible care for their children. Rich is passionate about preventive medicine and patient/parent education. He is a member of the Florida Association of Nurse Practitioners and a life member of the Association of the US Army. Rich is an avid reader who works hard to stay abreast of the most current developments in Pediatrics. In his free time, he likes working on cars, participating in water activities and traveling.
Emergency Care
Of course, to be a successful Medical Home we need your help. Please think of us as the first place to come for advice and care for all your child's heath care needs. This includes not only their physical health but also for all their emotional health and for all developmental issues as well. Whenever you need to find the appropriate specialist or need to access community resources for your child we are there to help and guide you. We are there to help coordinate your child's care. Please let us know any time your child has been treated by a specialist, has been evaluated at an emergency room or After-Hours clinic or by any other healthcare professionals like chiropractors, acupuncturists etc. This helps us obtain complete information about your child’s healthcare. Informing us of medications prescribed elsewhere, test results, and procedures is extremely important to having a complete understanding of your child's health. Every time your child is seen for care outside of our office, please request that a copy of the visit or test result is sent/faxed to us so we can best serve you. Our fax number is 727-449-0594.
Immunizations
If we believe your child has an issue that can be evaluated and treated without compromising quality and safety, we will offer a telehealth appointment that does not require your physical presence at the office. However, some conditions may require a face-to-face visit. If so, we may be able to examine the child in your vehicle and treat them accordingly. Certain types of visits, like well-child visits that include immunizations, are usually done within the office. If you have any special needs, please let our receptionist know, and we will try to accommodate any reasonable requests.

Dr. Pai completed his residency training in Pediatrics at the prestigious Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. He also has additional training in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology at Children’s Hospital of New Orleans. After graduating with honors, Dr.Pai continued as the Chief Resident of the program in Detroit for a year. He was responsible for resident education and worked extensively with critically ill children in the Pediatric ICU. He has also worked at the Emergency Room at All Children’s Hospital and has been a principal investigator for Pediatric Research studies at the Clinical Research of West Florida. Dr.Pai has practiced in Florida for the last 20 years and established “Clearwater Pediatric Care” in June 2002 and added the Westchase location in March 2014. He is Board-certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr.Pai has a special interest in childhood asthma, eczema, and infectious disease. He is on staff at Morton Plant Hospital, Mease Hospitals, and All Children’s Hospital.
