Handyman 101

We asked for an estimate and they were so personable we trusted them and they had such an agreeable number we were relieved. They showed up the next day with supplies which was reassuring two days in they said they didn?t realize how steep the roof was and asked for extra money to procure harnessing gear, which sounded reasonable so we gave him the extra. A week later L.D. Asked for the other half despite the job not being done. He said he needed to hire a new helper. I protested at first- wait if you can?t hire a new helper without the other half how can you finish the job without asking for more money, but he swore it would still get done, & so far had kept to his agreements. As soon as the roof was gone he left. Was supposed to come back and finish a rail and did not show up. The shingles began blowing off 2 days later which to me showed poor workmanship as I?ve been in this home 7 years and never had a shingle blow off prior. I asked him to fix it and he won?t. I will now have to find someone else to do the railing and take down and re-do the roof.

LD, aka Lonnie Hampton, can't be trusted. I hired him in September 2016, signed contract to redo our bathroom. We agreed to $2800 labor, paid him half up front. He had a sob story about medical issues and unexpected expenses, so asked for the other half. Naively we gave it to him because he was very responsive. That was a big mistake, he became very hard to reach after that. We paid another $1200 for tile, and $1650 for cabinets. He did order the tile from Dal and hired two other guys to start the work, who did a shoddy job on the flooring and quit with cement still on the walls. Turns out they put in an old lead shower pan instead of modern materials. I had to redo the demolition of the bathroom. LD brought some cabinets over, which didn't fit, and I refused them. Since then, we have not heard from him, and it is now Feb '17. 5 months of calling him to remind him to fulfill his contract and he has stopped showing up. At this point we have to start over, worse than where we started, to redo the demo and hire real contractors to renovated the bathroom. Overall a huge disaster, I would never trust him again.
