For accidents that happened on or after October 1, 2011, the way these personal injury cases are handled in North Carolina have changed. The ability to get a client a fair settlement was made much more difficult with this new legislation. Despite these changes, it is still just as important to get the advice of an attorney before resolving your personal injury claim. While we still handle these cases on contingency fees, now more then ever we as attorneys must be flexible in our fees to make sure that the clients claim is not only resolved fairly but that when it resolves, the client is not looking at a disbursement of the settlement proceeds where the doctors and the lawyers are the main beneficiaries of the settlement.
