Whole Foods Market

Date: January 10, 2009. Whole Foods, Rookwood Plaza, Cincinnati, Ohio, 45209. is situated in the appropriate community to cater to wealthy customers who live nearby. Fitting in with the elitest locals, the staff (i.e. Store Manager, and Sales Manager running Checkout Lane #3) were rude and uncooperative in my attempt to return a cookbook purchased ten days earlier--in perfect condition. [Book was purchased for a present, but made wrong selection]. On presenting receipt, I received the same blank stare as noted by other Whole Foods customer in Portland, Oregon when he asked for the scale to weigh vegetables. Glaring at my receipt, she snarled, "We don't take back literature after it is sold...I won't accept this". Is this a store policy? (I asked). "No, all the materials from last month have been sent back to the publisher/distributor"...you're too late. What about giving me a store credit or some compromise for value of the cookbook (I proposed). "No, we don't do that". End of discussion. Actually, discussion was not quite concluded. I did inform her, the (so-called) manager, that the guy running Lane #3 was unbelievably rude on my first attempt to return the cookbook, then learning (as any fool who shops at Whole Foods, Rookwood Plaza, should know) that all returns are handled in Lane #2!. More snarling, more dehumnizing treatment toward a sincere, but uninformed, patron, who left the wondering how an entire store can exude such a pervasive, rotten attitude?
