Rheumatoid arthritis, aka “inflammatory arthritis,” is also fairly common, although it is not as easily understood. Those suffering from arthritis typically report soreness around joints, which is worse after prolonged sitting, standing, or inactivity. Pain can get worse when you move, like when you bend your knees. You may notice popping or clicking sounds in the affected joint(s) with movement, and the joint may be sensitive or painful to the touch. Arthritis can also cause pain when you exercise or work, and the pain may go away after you stop doing that activity.

Plantar Fasciitis

We will focus on improving your posture to aid in the recovery of your neck muscles, as well as avoiding re-injury in the future. Additional treatment services may include ice and heat therapy, ultrasound, or electrical stimulation, as our physical therapist deems fit.
MRI
Your plan will likely include manual therapy to increase your range of motion and reduce scar tissue, stretches to improve balance and mobility, and strengthening exercises to enhance the injured area, as well as its surrounding areas. This will be done after first performing a diagnostic exam, and your physical therapist may also review diagnostic tests, such as X-rays, MRI, or ultrasound. Treatment plans will take into account the nature of your injury, your fitness level, and your lifestyle. These are all done to help you recover after your sports injury and to prevent further injuries from occurring in the future.

Since graduating Dahlia has focused on perfecting her skills in Orthopedics and Sports Medicine and has taken several courses in Manual Therapy as well as completing her Manual Therapy Certification through St. Augustine University. She has also finished her level 1 dry needling certification. In 2012 she became a Fellow of Applied Functional Science, a title only held by less than 300 therapists in the world, making her a Movement Specialist and expert on biomechanics, allowing her to find the route of the problem, not just treat the symptoms.
Sciatica
While back pain and sciatica are similar, they still have their differences and are often confused with one another. Back pain is found specifically in the upper, middle or lower back. Sciatica is a more diffuse, radiating pain down the buttock, thigh, and even leg.
Whiplash
Musculoskeletal headaches occur when there are significant amounts of tension in the neck. This is typically a result of physical imbalances, weaknesses, or damage, although emotional tension (such as stress) can also be a contributing factor. A traumatic injury to the neck, such as whiplash, is a common cause of musculoskeletal headaches. With neck injuries such as whiplash, the muscles and connective tissues in the neck can become torn or strained. This can lead to agonizing pain felt in the head, as well as in the face, shoulders, or neck.
Arthroscopy
A jaw specialist may also use a dental splint to keep teeth properly aligned and prevent tooth grinding. Other types of medical treatment include trigger point acupuncture, joint replacement, or a TMJ arthroscopy.

Hip Replacement
After hip replacement surgery, I went to Sports and Ortho for Physical therapy. I must say the staff worked me hard, but they did a great job in assisting me back to normal day to day living. Still unable to run or tie my shoe yet, but that takes a little more time.
Knee Replacement
Knee replacement - I can now walk again! Staff was very kind and efficient. Pam kept our spirits up while being strict. Lauren was very nice and encouraging.

Frozen Shoulder
Also known as “adhesive capsulitis,” frozen shoulder can occur if your arm has been in a case or sling for a while, or if you have been bedridden for an extended period of time. Furthermore, there are some ethnicities that are more predisposed, and women tend to have more instances than men. It is more common in women in the 40-60 years of age. Frozen shoulder results in a painful loss of motion in the shoulder with a tightening of the shoulder joint that severely limits motion.

Acute pain can be defined as pain that goes away on its own in a few hours, days, or weeks. An example of acute pain may be a minor ankle sprain, as the pain will subside shortly within a few days.

Aquatic Therapy
Types of physical therapy treatments used to treat motor vehicle accident injuries include massage therapy, manual manipulation, ultrasound, ice and cold therapy, specific exercises, targeted massage, stretching, and aquatic therapy.
Manual Therapy
The Graston technique is a form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM). It is a type of manual therapy that incorporates special ergonomic tools that are used to gently massage and scrape parts of the skin.
TMJ Dysfunction
Do you have difficulty chewing or yawning? Do you experience jaw pain? Do you hear clicking noises when you open or close your mouth? If so, you may have TMJ dysfunction.

Achilles Tendonitis
Prior to coming to Sports and Ortho, I walked with a limp because of the Achilles tendonitis. I had swelling that reduced a lot, and I could walk and stretch much better after therapy. My limping has stopped.
Ankle Sprain
I came to the Sports and Ortho on 109th and Western after an on duty accident that left me with a sprained ankle. Before coming, I could not walk on the heel of my left foot and could not stand the pressure of any shoe on that foot.
Bunions Problems
Other potentially treatable conditions include patellofemoral knee pain, shin splints, achilles tendonitis, and bunions, as well as numerous systemic pathologies that (like diabetes) affect the function of the lower limbs.
Flat Feet
Your foot contains several tendons that work together to form your arch. When the tendons pull together properly, your foot will form a proper arch. However, when the tendons do not pull together properly, your foot will form a very small arch, or no arch at all. This is referred to as “fallen arch” or “flat foot” and can cause pain or discomfort with time.
Heel Spurs
This is a bony protrusion on the heel that is usually made of some sort of calcium build-up. While the actual spurs are not painful they can poke the tissues in the heel and potentially cause severe pain. Many of the same risk factors that cause plantar fasciitis can also cause heel spurs.
Foot Pain
Metatarsalgia
This is a painful disorder that affects the joints and bones along the ball of the foot. This condition is often caused by ill-fitting footwear or restrictive footwear. Orthotics are usually recommended to help reduce pain caused by metatarsalgia.
Plantar Fasciitis
Post-operative patients are the prime candidates for the AlterG Treadmill. Patients are strapped into the middle of it, with their feet enclosed in the pressurized case. By safely securing patients, they are able to use the weight-bearing treadmill freely, without pressure on their legs or the fear of falling off of it. Other conditions that have shown improvement through the AlterG Treadmill include tendinitis, obesity, arthritis, osteoporosis, plantar fasciitis, shin splints, spine fusions, stress fractures, neurological disorders, complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD), and total joint replacement.
