I have been at Cary Brook for three years and the management here is deplorable. The management company that owned the complex when it was Misty Woods was a relatively decent organization. Since 2006, when the new management company took over, the condition of the complex has decreased significantly, even despite the 2.5 million in renovations that the Cary Brook website advertises. (I do wonder where exactly that money has gone into as it is not readily apparent.) The worst of the management may in fact be the maintenance staff. Most of the four men in this position appear to have no prior training in the maintenance of anything home related. There is a lot of jury rigging involved in their fixing of problems within the complex. Of the many problems I have had in my apartment (which happens as they are old apartments) I have never once had the problem fixed or usually even looked into the first time that I reported it. I have also discovered that it is best to be home when repairs are being done because if I don t I might very well be making another request the very same day because of damage that the maintenance men have done to other elements of my apartment while they were there, such as damaged blinds and stained carpeting. The quality of the apartments themselves is charming at face value, but if you look closer you will find slightly peeling wallpaper walls that have painted over and given a poor stucco look without the actual stucco (If you can t picture what I mean go take a look for yourself), vents that magically fall off the walls because even though it looks like they are screwed in they are not (some of them are caulked onto the drywall in fact), and frequent leaks from as many different sources you can think of. There is a reason that there are no pictures of the insides of the apartments on the website.

Another problem is the office staff. The turnover rate with the main office is astounding. They frequently employ temps on the weekends that know very little about the complex and are only able to help residents with issues by relating the manner to the permanent staff on Monday. Needless to say, you will get very little assistance on the weekends. I would also like to encourage the permanent office staff to take a course or two in bookkeeping as there has been more than one occasion in which I have had to dispute the balance of my account because of their paperwork and accounting errors. Another fault of the staff is their non-communication with the residents. As I mentioned previously, the complex was once named Misty Woods. The current management related the change of name to the residents by putting a new sign up in front of the complex. Wasn't that nice of them? Communication from the management is sporadic and usually only happens when they think you owe them money.

As for the good things about the complex, the new office sure does look nice. So why have I stayed so long' I did sign one lease with the new management because I was in no position to move at the time my previous lease was up. I will report however that the move fund that I set up for myself is doing wonderfully and that I only have a few more months to go before I am released from the contract that I made with these slumlords.
