Backwater Grille

We went there recently. The place has a certain charm, but for the second time in a row, the food was barely edible. When we gave our waitress some honest feedback, she apologized saying the they were "having a bad night". Apparently the chef had gone out on a boat and the "assistant cooks didn't call him back in time". I don't know how this explains that the food was over-cooked (we had fish and it was dry and chewy), but a second waitress who was also serving out table said that they had a number of complaints that night. Later we overheard employees who were leaving work, talking about what a fiasco the night had been. At this point we decided to talk to the manager, who simply smirked and became condescending. Then he got the manager, who arrived immediately hostile and was rather a bully. To be honest he came off like a mafioso....kind of scary and slightly sociopathic. We do not recommend this place for both the quality of the food and the attitude of the management.

When we walked in we were greeted with warm smiles. The menu was extensive with lots of variety and also was given the choice of dinner menu or tavern menu. I went with the Chicken Almondine and it was fabulous! Portions were extremely generous. Drinks were reasonably priced. I enjoyed a glass of Chardonnay and my date had a mixed drink. Service was great and food was second to none. In general a quaint place on the water with awesome views of the lake. We will be back sooner than later.
