CONDESCENDING CUSTOMER SERVICE

I don't normally go to Starbucks because I am in college and my money is better spent on bills, books, and class supplies. This Christmas I was given a gift card to Starbucks. So this morning (1/6/2010) pulling into Starbucks drive thru I asked for an iced carmel latte. After my order I pulled up to the window and he told me “a tall latte“ to check my order. I smiled and said a small, he said "oh right hun, a tall is a small latte". I said "oh , ok". I was embarrassed and my checks got red (they do all the time) because I didn’t know that a small was referred to as a tall. Anyway, I agreed to the order of a “tall latte”. When he handed me the latte it was hot. Lattes are supposed to be hot I know, but I asked for an iced, so I let him know of the mistake and said that I asked for an iced latte. Alex is his name, He just looked at me and said oh, well I didn’t hear you say that hun. I said okay, then he just stared at me. Yep he is still staring from his window down onto me in my car. After a good long stare as if the mistake was my fault I was upset that he was treating me in a condescending way. He offered to remake it, after the good long stare, but I said that’s ok and he shut the window. I went inside to the front counter and the girl who was there looked at me and said is there something you want, not can I help you but is there something you want, I told her about the mistake , and apologized for being worked up (it was hard for me to explain the mistake made because he was standing right there and I had request to talk to him about it, she ignored me and said she could help me). She remade the order. While remaking the order she glared at me and said, “ for some people the menu can be hard to read, so we have no problems remaking the order.” After that I took my drink thanking her, and she smiled and said to have a good day, of course we all know what she was really thinking. If I had known I was going to get a whole heap of condescending customer “I’m better than you” service with my coffee this morning, I would have given my gift card away to someone I didn’t like and said, go to the Startbucks on highway 50, they have “great service there”. Hope I don’t run into these people again, and if I do I will handle it.
