Plantar Fasciitis
Our Podiatrists specialize in treating heel pain or plantar fasciitis. Many of the symptoms include pain when you first get up in the morning, burning, numbness and increased symptoms by the end of the day. The pain is usually caused by tightening of the plantar fascia ligament located on the bottom of the foot. The plantar fascia ligament supports the arch. When you're resting, the ligament contracts. As you start to walk, the ligament pulls and may tear slightly causing pain. Heel pain can also be brought on by trauma, over exertion, ill- fitting shoes or poor foot alignment.

Wound Care
Having an open wound, increases the chances of infection. If you have a non healing wound on your lower extremity, it is essential that you act to get it healed as quickly as possible to prevent infection and further complications. If you have diabetes, you are especially at risk for complications. The sooner a wound is treated the greater the patient's chances are of healing.

Bunion surgery is usually performed on an out-patient basis which means patients get to go home on the same day of the surgery. Many of our patients start walking on the operative foot within a few days and can return to work within a short period of time. It is our objective to get you back on your feet as soon possible.

Many people who enjoy the sport of running are aware of the importance of having a strong lower body. Additionally, when proper running shoes are worn, it may be possible to prevent foot conditions that can include bunions.
Ingrown Toenails
Symptoms - An ingrown toenail occurs when a corner of the nail grows into the flesh of the toe, causing redness and swelling, followed by pain and often infection. Ingrown toenails can occur due to improper trimming of the toenail, trauma or genetic factors.

Corns
People with hammertoe may have corns or calluses on the top of the middle joint of the toe or on the tip of the toe. They may also feel pain in their toes or feet and have difficulty finding comfortable shoes. Causes of hammertoe include improperly fitting shoes and muscle imbalance.
Calluses
Bunions are due primarily to genetic factors, but can become painful over time due to trauma, ill-fitting shoes and poor foot structure. What happens, is that the bone connected to the big toe starts to drift outward pushing the big toe sideways into the other toes which can also lead to painful hammertoes, corns and calluses.
Fungus
Fungal toenails are caused by an organism that grows in and under the nail. The fungus likes to grow in warm, moist places like your shoes. Many patients pick up fungal toenail infections in the gym locker room, from a nail salon, wet shoes or from trauma. Fungus can stay in the nails for many years and can be passed from one person to another. Treatment for fungal toenails includes topical and oral medications, which used together are very effective.

There are noticeable symptoms that exist with an Achilles tendon injury. These can include pain near your heel, soreness after arising in the morning, and difficulty flexing or pointing the foot.

Ankle sprains are an extremely common injury. They involve possible joint damage resulting in swelling, instability and pain, to more severe damage, such as torn ligaments, bruised cartilage and broken bones. Hammertoe is a deformity of the second, third, fourth or fifth toes. In this condition, the toe is bent at the middle joint, resembling a hammer. Left untreated, hammertoes can become inflexible and require surgery.
Heel Spurs
Heel spurs located at the back of the heel are most often associated with inflammation of the Achilles tendon, which can cause tenderness and heel pain. Heel spurs will be diagnosed based on if you have a history of heel pain and if there is tenderness at the bottom of the heel. An X-Ray is typically required to confirm this.

Foot Warts (Plantar Warts) are a common foot condition that we treat in our practice. If you have one or more growths on the bottom of your foot that may or may not be painful, chances are it's a plantar wart. Plantar Warts are caused by a virus. You may notice little black dots in the wart. People sometimes think these dots are splinters. They are actually the blood vessels that nourish the wart. You can get viral warts anywhere you walk barefoot, such as the local pool, karate studio, dance studio, locker room or even from a pedicure salon.
