Dental Examination
Dental radiographs (x-rays) are essential, preventative, diagnostic tools that provide valuable information not visible during a regular dental exam. At Lifesmiles Family Dentistry, we use only the latest digital X-ray imaging. This allows for increased sensitivity with digital sensors so we can have decreased radiation over traditional X-ray machines.
X-rays
Cone Beam CT – this is like a medical CT scan but it uses less x rays. However, the cone beam CT uses more x rays than bitewing, periapical or panoramic x rays. It helps make three-dimensional (3D) pictures. It is used infrequently compared to the other types of dental x rays.
Oral Cancer Screening
Oral cancer screening: Check the face, neck, lips, tongue, throat, tissues, and gums for any signs of oral cancer.

Teeth Cleaning
Research has shown and experts agree that there is a correlation between poor oral health and chronic inflammatory diseases such as: cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and other problems such as: stroke, premature and low birth weight. Seeing us at Lifesmiles Family Dentistry for regular dental cleanings will help to keep you teeth and gums healthy, which will also help with management of these other problems. The American Dental Association recommends cleanings and exams twice per year.
Fluoride Treatment
Good dental health also includes regular dental exams, cleanings, and x-rays. Sealants and fluoride are also great preventive treatments that help protect the teeth.
Dental Sealants
A sealant is a thin, plastic coating applied to the chewing surface of molars, premolars and any deep grooves (called pits and fissures) of teeth. More than 75% of dental decay begins in these deep grooves. Teeth with these conditions are hard to clean and are very susceptible to decay. A sealant protects the tooth by sealing deep grooves, creating a smooth, easy to clean surface.

Fillings
There are many types of filling materials available, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. Dr. Gawlik will discuss the best options for restoring your teeth. Composite fillings are the most widely used today. Silver amalgam fillings are rarely, if ever used by Dr. John Gawlik making his dentistry more holistic in approach. Because composite fillings are tooth colored, they can be closely matched to the color of existing teeth, and are more aesthetically suited for use in front teeth or the more visible areas of the teeth.
Veneers
Veneers are very thin pieces of durable, tooth shaped porcelain that are custom made (for shape and color) by a professional dental laboratory. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a beautiful and attractive smile.
Crowns
A crown (or cap) is a covering that encases the entire tooth surface restoring it to its original shape and size. A crown protects and strengthens tooth structure that cannot be restored with fillings or other types of restorations.
Bridges
Dental bridges are highly durable and will last many years, however they may need replacement or need to be re-cemented due to normal wear.
Dental Bonding
Dental bonding is the process of bonding tooth-colored resin to the teeth to mask imperfections. In addition to providing cosmetic relief, bonding can be used to fill cavities. Once the resin has been bonded to the tooth, it is basically permanent. This doesn’t mean that you’ll never have to have it touched up or replaced. It just means that it is very unlikely to fall off or break away.
