This is one of the best Japanese restaurants in the area. I took my girl here last Monday and we ordered several lighter dishes. I love the seafood ramen and the tonkatsu.

The food is just okay, and the waitstaff is awkward but they try to make this place work. However, they are fighting a losing battle as the sushi takes forever to make, the portions are cheap, every special request comes with a price tag, and there is no coordination between the kitchen and the sushi bar. Little attention is paid to the needs of the customers, either in terms of food or service. And if you are in the restaurant at the same time as an "important" customer or a big party, don't expect to get your food at all. The owner, Mark Kiang, is a maniac -- arrogant, rude, and unwilling to take responsibility for the poor functioning of his own restaurant. Don't try to critique the service in an effort to make the restaurant better -- the owner thinks he knows everything and is better than everybody, a Gordon Ramsey wannabe without the talent or the TV show. I will never go to Mikado again or to Truffles, the other restaurant that Mark Kiang owns, and do not recommend these restaurants at all. It is time to get a real Japanese restaurant in this location, one that respects its customers and creates a positive dining experience.

The positive note: The wait staff is as nice as they are allowed to be. The food is okay - when you get your food within a reasonable amount of time. However, when my teriyaki chicken was served with a small bowl of rice that was half full- I knew we were in for a terrible experience. The downside: The management/owner (Mark Kiang) is horribly rude and cannot take criticism of the service. I had to check out this restaurant to make sure that I did not just experience the worst service ever in a resturant and come to find out, many, many others on various sites have experienced similiar issues. Postings from 2006 indicate a negative pattern of downward quality in service and food. We will never recommend Mikado to any friends or people.
