Overall

Very reassuring about expected results.

Surgery was awful & it took many months to recover. 2 years later and there's still no appetite for anything but a very soft liquid diet. But remaining teeth are stable tho very sensitive. I have zero desire for anything crunchy & am glad I have access to his office. He and staff really do make sure u have plenty of pain meds after the first critical post op week, and minimal discomfort during the procedure.

glad he's here

pro staff, amazingly honest doctor, great surgeon. 100% confidence in his knowledge. extra dedicated dds with an incredible staff. the surgery and recovery was awful, but pain free as possible. confusing and overwhelming diagnosis made tolerable by a very caring and intelligent dentistry.

The office would get 5 stars if they treated me like the (drama) queen I am; suffered my every whim; & could cause me no pain. I have to say that I had read some reviews that might have kept me from Dr. Spencer but I am glad I went to him. I first went b/c (1) filed insurance; (2) took state of texas insurance; & (3) was taking new patients. I knew it was going to bad news, & being a total baby, I have cried almost every time I have been in there b/c the news is so bad but they are very nice and do everything they can to make sure you are not in pain. As a matter of fact, he is the first perio who has not hurt me during the measurement exam, and trust me, he was definitely under those gums; I couldn't belive it. You couldn't ask for a nicer group of people (office and dental).

I had (what I consider) extensive surgery, about 3.5 hours of dental flap and bone grafting. Dr. Spencer hardly stopped; he was focused, called to check on me the next day, and further -- I can now CHEW, I have no PAIN (I have lived with pain for years), I can SLEEP, and I am able to take better care of my teeth.

I am looking forward to my next appointment (I have never said this in my life), and if you need help, go see Dr. Spencer.

I have had to adjust my expectations -- Dr. Spencer is a SURGEON -- he is not a day beauty spa provider that's going to coddle you -- but he is very, very nice and when I have needed to talk to him, I tell him, and he stops and listens because he is very intent on extensive treatment TO SAVE YOUR TEETH.

Poor experience with Dr. Philip Spencer's office

I had a poor experience with Dr. Philip Spencer's office, a periodontist in Austin, TX. His office was very aggressive in pushing me to have surgery. I later learned from another periodontist that I did not need surgery.

They also performed root scaling/planning on me for four quadrants in only 30 minutes. I later learned that it is physically impossible to have this done this fast. I'd be very careful with this office. I would not recommend them.

Dr Spencers' office is the most friendliest and professional office that I have been to in Austin. They take a very uncomfortable situation and they make you feel at ease and not apprenhensive about why you are at their office. Dr Spencer makes you feel very comfortable about asking questions and has your best interest at heart. His staff is very warm and they go out of their way to make you at feel at home. One of the pluses that really was great for me was that they have payment plans for the work that needs to be done unlike the other offices that in Austin. I would highly recommend Dr Spencer for anyone with gum problems that don't like dental work. You leave feeling very relaxed and not embarrassed about your problems.

My visit to Dr Spencer was pleasant. Dr Spencer is the second periodontist I have had to see. I have had this problem for 10 years. This was my second surgery....the first was with another dentist. That experience was much more painful and did not solve my problem. I have to say that my teeth and gums have never felt this good. Dr Spencer was very professional and efficient. He is obviously a very talented and highly skilled surgeon. I felt no pain at all during the procedure, and I was surprised that I had very little discomfort afterward. His gentle and friendly hygienists do a great job too. My general dentist says my gums look great. The office staff was friendly and took care of my insurance....I would recommend Dr Spencer to anyone who has a problem with their gums. Dr Spencer's office is top notch.
