Please be careful to choose a product that is safe and effective. There are many websites that advertise ineffective and unsafe at-home remedies (garlic for ex). If you aren’t sure about your options please set up an appointment to discuss them with us.

Loves people who love animals, and this team is filled with people who share my same interests. Her favorite part of veterinary medicine is surgery and wound care, and helping animals recover and go through their healing processes.

Dental Surgery
Dental Cleanings at Rum River are performed when pets are fully anesthetized (asleep) to prevent injury and ensure high-quality cleanings. We clean and polish all of the teeth, complete an examination of the mouth including the teeth, tongue, and gums then take radiographs of all of the teeth. When indicated, we will perform tooth extractions, biopsies, gingivectomies, and other oral surgeries. We use the safest and most gentle anesthesia available including pre-surgical blood work, IV fluids, and continuous monitoring by certified veterinary technicians throughout the procedure to keep every pet safe and healthy. Our anesthetic protocols are tailored to meet the needs of each patient. In cases where pain management is necessary, we use the safest and most effective medication available to ensure the pet’s comfort.
Veterinary Surgery
Whenever possible we will make every effort to see your pet. If your pet needs emergency surgery, blood transfusions, advanced imaging (CT & MRI) or overnight care we will refer you.

Spaying and Neutering
We recommend most pets be sterilized with surgical spay (ovariohysterectomy) or neuter (castration). Recent research has made the timing of this procedure more controversial. There may be some benefits to waiting until 9 – 12 months of age but there are also some disadvantages.

Chemistry profile (Chem) —Blood test to evaluate the function of internal organs and to detect systemic disorders such as diabetes, kidney, or liver disease and electrolyte abnormalities.

Microchipping
Microchips get pets home safely. They do not report the pet’s location but, when found, pets can be scanned and reconnected with their lost owners. Microchips are tiny transponders, about the size of a grain of rice, that use radiofrequency waves to transmit information about your pet. Having a microchip will also allow you to use a number of new products like smart doors and feeders that read your pet’s microchip before giving them access.

Our pet groomer is your professional partner in veterinary wellness care and works in conjunction with the medical team, offering services and resources to contribute to the health and longevity of your dog or cat. If any veterinary concerns become apparent during the pet grooming process, we will inform you immediately and schedule an appointment with one of our veterinarians, if necessary.
Senior Pet Care
The concept of senior pet care can be confusing to pet owners, as the life stages of our pets pass much more rapidly than ours. A general estimate is that they age approximately seven years for each one of ours, but the rate any pet ages is determined by factors such as breed, size, nutrition, health care, and lifestyle.
Dog Training
Kenna grew up in Coon Rapids but currently lives in Woodbury and joined the Rum River team in April of 2022. She graduated from UW - River Falls in the spring of 2020 with a Bachelor's degree in Animal Science and has worked in the veterinary medicine field since 2014. She also does part-time administrative work with Paws Abilities Dog Training in Eagan. In her free time, she likes to spend time with her friends, explore the outdoors, and take naps. At home, she lives with her boyfriend (Andrew), Boxer/GSD mix (Duke), and two cats (Ollie and JJ).
