He is a past President of the Bunting Periodontal Study Club, and an active member in many dental associations. In addition to his commitment to attending continuing education courses, Dr. Bunek is also an educator, lecturing nationally to other clinicians on advancements in periodontics and dental implants. Throughout his time at University of Michigan, Dr. Bunek received numerous accolades recognizing his passion and commitment to patient care and excellence in periodontics/implantology including the Sigurd P. Ramfjord Award, Kramer Scholar finalist, Billy A. Smith Patient Rapport Award, and the Russell W. Bunting Award. Dr. Bunek is originally from Lake Leelanau, Michigan and currently resides in Ann Arbor with his wife Sabiha, a local dentist, and two kids, Renna and Faris. In his spare time you can often find Dr. Bunek attending most Michigan College sporting events, biking, or traveling with his family and friends.

An extraction is an oral surgery procedure where the entire tooth (crown, root & periodontal ligament) is removed from the socket in the bone. At Michigan Implants & Periodontics, we extract all types of teeth (fractured, root canal treated, wisdom, impacted and baby teeth)! Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral Surgery
Frenulums are folds of tissue that connect the gums to the upper and lower lip. A person may experience a lip tie if the frenulum attachment is too short or thick. A FRENECTOMY is a simple soft tissue oral surgery procedure that will increase the range of motion to the lips, maintain a gap closure between two teeth after orthodontics, or relieve a “pull” on the gums near a tooth with recession.

Tooth Extractions
Simple extractions are performed on teeth that can be seen in the mouth and do not require sectioning of the tooth or incising the gums for access. These extractions are performed under local anesthesia. The doctor will loosen the tooth and ligament with an elevator instrument and use forceps to extract the tooth.
