Traditional dental X-rays have always had their drawbacks, but since our practice has gone all-digital, we’ve completely fixed them! Now, we can take crystal-clear images of the teeth and bone below the gum line and develop them in just seconds. We can then show you your own X-rays right away so you can fully understand what is going on in your smile. Better yet, they expose patients to 90% LESS radiation compared to traditional film.
Oral Cancer Screening
When oral cancer is detected early, the survival rate is very high, but that number drops to as low as 38% if the disease isn’t detected until it’s quite advanced. To keep you and your loved ones safe, we’ll always perform an oral cancer screening during your checkups. If we find a suspicious sore, growth, or lesion, we can help a patient get a diagnosis right away. Then, if treatment is needed, it can be started without delay.
Regular fluoride exposure is great for patients of all ages, but it’s particularly helpful for children, as it can lower their cavity risk and aid the development of their adult teeth even before they come in. In addition to using a fluoridated toothpaste at home, we can help by coating your child’s teeth with a concentrated fluoride gel after each and every cleaning. This will give them a potent boost of cavity protection that will keep them safe all the way until their next checkup.
Dental Sealants
While a child is still learning how to brush, their teeth are still susceptible to developing cavities, specifically the ones in the back that can be hard to reach. To help, we can cover these vulnerable teeth with a thin layer of dental plastic that literally seals them off from harmful plaque, bacteria, and food particles that could lead to decay. We can place them at their next checkup—the procedure only takes a few minutes, is 100% pain-free, and the sealants can easily last for a decade or more.
With a tooth-colored filling, we can make a minor cavity look like it never existed. These restorations are made of a composite resin that we can perfectly shade to blend with a patient’s enamel. The end result is a filling that doesn’t stick out in the smile like an old metal one. Even better, the resin bonds more firmly to enamel compared to traditional amalgam, meaning these fillings don’t just look better, but they provide a higher quality repair as well!
Veneers
Today, Dr. Chambers regularly pursues new continuing education opportunities whenever they arise. She has completed SPEAR courses in complex occlusion and treatment planning, the Center for Esthetic Excellence’s course in composite veneers, and numerous other lectures/trainings over the years. She loves constantly learning because it challenges her to think about dental care from new angles, as well as how to pair each unique patient with the right choice for their mouth. She is a current member of the following dental organizations...
Crowns
At Amherst Dental Group, the answer is a definitive “Yes!” Even though our CEREC crowns can be made in just an hour or 2, they look just as natural and are just as strong and durable as any crown created by an outside lab. With CEREC, you save time while still enjoying premier quality.
Bridges
A dental bridge is a type of prosthetic that uses the strength of your remaining teeth to replace one to three missing teeth in a row. Dental crowns are fitted over the teeth on either side of the gap in the smile, and these are bonded to other dental crowns that fill in the space. In addition to making it easier to chew, dental bridges also prevent the nearby teeth from drifting out of place, which is always a threat after tooth loss that can throw off the alignment of the entire bite.
Dental Bonding
If your smile just needs a minor touch-up because of a small chip, stain, or gap, then cosmetic bonding offers a quick and easy solution that only takes about an hour. A composite resin is applied to the tooth, and then your dentist molds and sculpts it to hide the offending imperfection. Once the resin is hardened and polished, the tooth will look pristine and flawless. Even though the procedure is fast, the results are guaranteed to last, enduring for about a decade or more with the proper care.
