I have complained and brought the following to the attention of Evelyn and Preston, Turcos Owners. The weight of the 3 scales for buffet food is not consistent throughout the store. There are 3 scales to weigh prepared foods..two on the left hand side of the store (coffee and by water bottles) and the main entrance where one normally pays for larger shopping. ALL 3 record the weight of the items that are purchased by weight, differently! Each scale has different weight for the same amount of food! Evelyn told me that was impossible because she had the guy from weights and measure in the day before and all scales were calibrated equally. When I insisted that she weigh the prepared food I had in my hand.. it was confirmed. She wanted to destroy my receipts.. which I snatched from her hand. This was a year ago. Today.. I went again @ 8:05 AM to purchase breakfast. I went to pay to the front of the store. My purchase weighed 0.40 oz. I then took the SAME container to have it weighed by the coffee area, since there was no one at the scale by the water area, the SAME container weighed 0.28 oz! RIP OFF! BUYER BEWARE!!!!!
I've shopped at Turco's a few times. Every time I've gone in, the place looks dirty. I see things that disgust me such as employees picking food from buffet with their fingers as they walk by. They dont have air-conditioning. I've seen roaches and even a rat or mouse. I will take Acme, Stop & Shop and Shop Rite over Turco's. Turco's is cheap and underhanded. They buy stuff (cozy shack rice pudding) and open it up and put it in their own containers and sell it as their own. Rip off!!
I shop here weekly and I have found it to be on par with the best markets in NYC. The meat and fish are of the highest quality and the price is reasonable . Produce is good and the catering department delivers quality every time I have used them. This is a gem of a local business that delivers to our community.

When Turco's first opened it was fantastic. Unfortunately over the years, it still ""looks"" good but they seem to be taking some tricky shortcuts. For the last 3 or 4 times I bought their fresh fish, it was always presented as something it isn't. Examples: The ""cleaned"" shrimp which they charge more for, are not clean at all. I have to take it home and finish cleaning them. The prepared ""Fried Flounder"" is not flounder at all. The fish under the breading is gray and slimy, not white and flaky like ""flounder"" should be. Seemed more like the cheaper ""basa"" fish was used. Also this evening I purchased the rolled/stuffed sole. This was not ""sole"". Once again, this was the same gray, slimy fish as I've been disappointed with in the past. My husband threw it in the garbage. Also when purchasing steaks, they strategically place the price sticker over the plastic wrap covering large pieces of fat and gristle so that you cannot see the problem with the meat until you get home. It's just plain insulting! They obviously underestimate the intelligence of their customers. Hoping Fairway opens up in the area so that Turco's will try a little harder.
