Dr. Shafran is a Board-Certified Gastroenterologist practicing in the Orlando area since 1979. He treats a wide variety of gastrointestinal diseases, skilled in both diagnostic medicine and endoscopic procedures. Early in his career, Dr. Shafran discovered a special interest in the diagnosis and treatment of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), Crohn’s Disease & Ulcerative Colitis, and over the past 35 years this interest has evolved into a passion to find the “Cause and Cure” for IBD. He is proud to be the top clinical IBD researcher in Central Florida, and has developed an exceptional Clinical Research Program, and IBD Center-of-Excellence offering all qualified patients access to therapies and treatments they may not otherwise be able to receive. They are the first & only IBD Center-of-Excellence in Florida with the Am. Gastroenterological Association, “Bridges-to-Excellence” recognition and 1 of 17 nationally. “We offer IBD patients not only conventional therapies, but also opportunities to participate in novel treatment protocols that are highly individualized, patient-centered approaches that look at IBD differently,” Dr. Shafran says. His certified Clinical Research Team is composed of an ARNP and three Registered Nurses who share his vision, integrity and compassion. In addition to running industry-sponsored, FDA-approved Clinical Trials, and participating in the majority of the pivotal IBD drug trials and Investigator Initiated Studies, Dr. Shafran speaks, publishes and presents medical findings both nationally and internationally, teaches Medical Students and is active the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation’s Central Florida Board. We are trained in the latest therapeutic technologies for the early detection & prevention of colon cancer & removal of polyps, treatment of gastrointestinal bleeds and non-invasive Wireless Capsule Endoscopy of the small bowel and esophagus. We are active on the staff of Florida Hospital Altamonte; however, perform most procedures at the Florida Surgical Center in Altamonte Springs where we utilize special Narrow-Band Imaging Endoscopes to enhance visualization of esophageal & colonic mucosa for the earliest detection of changes that might be cancerous. As an Infusion Center, we provide a convenient, comfortable, clean room for the infusion of products like Remicade, Orencia & Stem Cells with a TV, VCR or DVD for your convenience
