Howd, Lavlert & Finch LLP, with five partners and eleven support staff, is one of Northwest Connecticut's oldest and most established law firms. Senior Partner Frank H Finch Jr has been with the firm over forty years. Partners David M Cusick, Patrick E Power and Bruce C Schmidt each have been with the firm over thirty years and Partner Douglas K O'Connell began his career at the firm over twenty years ago. Business Disputes
Mr. Finch has held leadership positions in numerous community organizations and is a director, officer or trustee of several charitable and business organizations. He is a director of the Northwest Connecticut Economic Development Corporation and Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Northwest YMCA, Vice Chairman of the Regional Advisory Council of Northwest Connecticut Community College and Vice Chairman of the Litchfield County University Club. He continues to serve as a member, director or consultant to numerous other boards and commissions. These activities reflect his special interest and experience in corporate and business law, topics on which he has lectured in courses conducted by the Small Business Association, the Chamber of Commerce, trade and business associations and educational institutions.
Mr. Cusick is head of the firm’s Real Estate Department, and has extensive experience representing and counseling clients in residential and commercial real estate transactions, development and financing. Such legal services have included representing both developers of condominiums and other planned communities and the community associations themselves.

Mr. Cusick also represents and counsels applicants or concerned neighbors in matters involving subdivision, zoning and other land use regulation, including appeals to court; he also regularly represents the Town of Norfolk Planning and Zoning Commission and the Norfolk Inlands Wetlands and Watercourses Agency.

For over twenty-five years, he has counseled clients on the preparation of wills and trusts, the tax aspects of planning for the administration of trusts created for tax reduction or property control, contested probate matters and succession planning for closely held businesses.
