Dr Schmidt graduated from the University of Illinois in 1983 and received his doctorate from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. He completed a residency in Ocular Disease from The Eye Institute in Philadelphia and followed that with a 1 year Fellowship in Glaucoma at the Scheie Eye Institute in Philadelphia.Â

She then completed her Doctorate of Optometry at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Walters received training in primary eye care, pediatric eye care, ocular disease, and low vision. She also completed an internship where she received training in specialty contact lenses in patients with post-refractive surgery complications, keratoconus, and many other ocular conditions. Dr. Walters completed her externship at the Birmingham V.A. Hospital where she received extensive training in ocular disease and managing numerous ocular conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy. Dr. Walters is an active member of the Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Society and American Optometric Association.Â
