The DAV stores have always treated me fine. Sometimes they are a bit matter-of-fact or a little slow to attend to my request because they are in the middle of a different task, but all of that is to be expected. DAV stores have interesting things that are inexpensively priced. Improved customer service and general cleanliness would bring these 4 stars up to 5; but all in all, I have not encountered anything that would keep me from shopping at any of their locations. (In defense of the Central location, the lady I gave my great aunt's vintage dog collection to did a wonderful job of pricing and displaying the fragile dogs in a respectful manner. I really think it depends who you get when.) I am familiar with the reasons why customer service may be marginal at a thrift store and out of respect for the workers, I am patient and forgiving of any awkwardness. I know that DAV stores are not high-end department stores or boutiques (their business model is different, as reflected in the prices) and I adjust my expectations accordingly. I wouldn't classify DAV stores as "must sees", but I've be going to them for years and found some pretty cool stuff. Isn't that half the fun of thrifting? When I want pampering, I go to specialty stores that treat me like I have infinite room on my credit card (until they find out that I don't), or better yet, I go to the spa. When I go "thrifting" I want good prices on interesting things (or things I can repurpose in my crafts). That's what the DAV stores give me.
