Wichita Animal Shelter

I took in a pregnant stray dog, first cost me $25 to drop off that stinks, but ok. Second the rude people and lack of knowledge in here was ridiculous! I asked if I could be notified if dog was not claimed, they said yes. I called the next day, I was informed there was no way I could have the dog if not claimed. She would either be put down or adopted out. I asked about the puppies, the lady said they would be aborted! As I cried and pleaded for the dog all that was said was that she was property of the city now. Now I understand lack of room and sometimes animals will be put down, my issue is that they didn't inform me of this procedure when I specifically asked before I dropped her off! Seriously that is horrible I was blatently lied too! I would have never taken the dog there if I would've been completely informed!
pictures would help lost pets be reclaimed. Some people don't have decent transportation. If they saw their pet, maybe they can work extra hard to find transportation and bring their baby home. pictures would help adopt pets out too. I can't always get to Wichita, but am looking for a second pet. I want to rescue a dog. There has to be a better way. pictures are simple and useful. Argue against that simple solution of saving a pet. You can get a simple digital camera (ebay???) and take pictures to post, maybe connect up with the Humane society besides just being next door neighbors. C'mon,,,,, the solutions are soooo obvious. Maybe dogs can be sponsored for neuter or spay procedures too. The solutions, again, are so obvious. Thank you for reading this.
Just an FYI in respond to those 2 review on this page:
This place is animal control. This building is right next door to the kansas humane society. Its where they take all the stray dogs to be reclaimed hopefully by their owners so they do put them on hold for 3 days. If you want to see the dogs to be adopted go to the kansas humaine society web site.
I recently lost my dog so I had to go to this place myself and if you want to see the dogs they have in this facility to reclaim a lost dog you can go to: www.petharbor.com
You can also call 350-3366 if you lost a dog and want to check with them.
Have been LOOKing for just the right pet.on the web, no time to visit all the available shelters and rescue facilities!..unfortunately, like EVERY other website, not one has taken the inititave to include photos of adoptable pets!!! I wonder why that is??? Are you also so slow when it comes time to put them down for lack of a home??? INCLUDE PICTURES! Im sure someone would volunteer to do the work, if the employees are too busy!!

people who work there need to take the job more serious. Dogs are living things with feeling too. It is serious, and needs to be looked into. The place is filthy and outrageous!!! The city will spend millions on buildings we don't need, shelters for living things that has to do with life and death...well, what is the excuse?
Too many bad people out there....too selfish, money in their pockets is all that matters. animals die because of that selfish behavior. To everyone out there....go onto your computer...there is a website to go to, through the government, type in ""cruelty to animals complaints state of Kansas."" Somebody has to do something.

This shelter k*lls them with in days. They do not give the animals a chance at getting adopted. I came in on a Saturday, they were to busy talking to the other employees instead of helping me. So I left an came back on Monday and when I did almost all the animals both cats and dogs were gone. We were told that they were adopted out already but when I went on Saturday they are only opened for 4 hours and closed on Sunday.. I came in only 4 mins after they opened on Monday and all the animals were gone how can they all be adopt when they are not open... K*ll shelter.. They are out for the states money not for finding the animals a good home... They are getting more state funding to find homes for these animals but they give them no time to find that...
