Sleep Disorders
Patients spend the night in a comfortable, queen-size bed where they are monitored by trained staff and computer devices used to record sleep patterns. The data is analyzed and scored by a trained sleep disorders physician who then diagnoses the patient. Once the patient is diagnosed, the staff works with them toward a solution and a better night's rest.
Family Practice
After 60 years of service, Robert Thomas retired. The SJMH Sleep Lab was accredited. Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital's welcome two new clinicians to the Medical Staff - family medicine physician Ashley Keator and nurse midwife Sarah Highlander. The hospital dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic which was first announced in January 2020. Telemedicine was rolled out to deal with the inability of patients to see physicians in person. The hospital ran COVID-19 testing sites, first at Market Place and then on the ground floor at SJMH. The Weston ENT and Audiology Office at Market Place closed in July and SJ Home Care was under new management. Dr. Thomas Walsh came to SJMH as the new urologist. Dr. Amy Pearson and Dr. Rob Snuffer moved their offices to 251 West Second Street in Weston. Regional Eye Associates open offices in Dr. Snuffers former location.
Emergency Care
Emergency Services Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital is improving our Emergency Department (ED) services to better serve our community. We're now staffed with well-regarded emergency medicine physicians and have introduced a new hospitalist program to provide integrated, collaborative care for Emergency Department patients, as well as those who are staying in the hospital.

In March, BBL Carlton began renovations on the first floor of the Hospital. Two more beds were added to ICU to bring the total to six. A waiting room was added next to the Telemetry department. Dr. Alvaro Gutierrez joined the Weston Neurology Clinic, Dr. Salvatore LaNasa joined the SJMH staff in August. Dr. Tony Naim joined Dr. Murshid Latif's obstetrics/gynecology practice. Radiologists Dr. Wilson Tan and Dr. Felipe Espinoza began work at SJMH.

Three new physicians join the SJMH staff - Dr. Brian Hornsby, internal medicine; Dr. Matthew Denti, OB/GYN; and Tyler Hall, family medicine. Long-time employee Rick Thomason is named 2012 Employee of the Year. A new generator is installed that will provide much better back up for Hospital needs in response to the derecho of June 2012 which left the hospital without power in important areas. The business office moves to the former offices of Weston ENT on Center Avenue and that area is turned into a new Oncology/Infusion/and Vein Center.

Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital has two fully-equipped surgical suites as well as up-to-date outpatient surgery facilities. Inpatient and outpatient care includes such general and specialized procedures as gynecology, orthopedics, urology, and general, vascular, and colorectal surgery.

Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital offers exercise and chemical stress tests Monday through Friday performed by a board-certified cardiologist and other trained physicians. Myocardial Perfusion scanning is completed in the Nuclear Medicine Department.
Mammography
Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital offers state-of-the-art Genius™ 3D Mammography™ exams. It is suggested that the Genius™ 3D Mammography™ exam finds 20-65% more invasive breast cancers compared to 2D alone. Such readings can lead to earlier diagnosis and a greater variety of treatment options available for the patient. Hologic, the parent company, also notes that almost 50% of women over 40 have dense breast tissue that can hide early signs of cancer in a traditional mammogram. Only the Genius® exam is FDA approved as superior to 2D mammography for women with dense breasts. We are now a Pink Ribbon facility.
Chemotherapy
SJMH is able to provide chemotherapy for our residents close to home. The Hospital was very proud to be able to add this need service, along with a vein center and moving infusion to this department.
Radiation Therapy
There are three main treatments for most cancers: surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy. Your treatment program could include one of these, a combination of two, or all three. This will be determined by your doctor and you (including input from your family and/or caregivers if you choose to include them.)

Stonewall Jackson Surgical Services offers many advantages to patients. You can receive a wide range of surgical procedures from specialists and a well-trained support staff. Being close to home, family and friends, with access to follow-up care right here, our goal is to get you on a quick road to recovery.
Orthopedics
Three new physicians joined the SJMH Medical Staff. Sharrell Gibson, M.D., joined the offices of Mountaineer Healthcare for Women. Orthopedic surgeons Doyle R. Sickles, M.D., and Shafic Sraj, M.D., joined Joseph Snead., M.D., at Weston Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Center. Employees Linda Bush, Helen Dot Butler, and Sally Frazee retired from the Hospital.
Wound Care
Nurses can provide complex skilled services such as injections, extensive wound care, complex teaching or disease management, including diabetes, heart disease and lung disease, intravenous therapy, and nutritional services.

Eczema
The primary symptom of varicose veins is the appearance of highly visible, misshapen veins, usually on the legs. Besides being unsightly, varicose veins can be painful, especially when standing. You may suffer from pain, swelling, heaviness, and aches in the legs. In some cases, you may have swelling, discoloration, or ulcers around the ankles as well. Severe long-standing varicose veins can lead to leg swelling, venous eczema, skin thickening and ulceration. Life-threatening complications are uncommon, but varicose veins may be confused with deep vein thrombosis, which can be life-threatening.

Sports Medicine
The Pharmacy and Nursing Department began the implementation of a "Pyxsis" system for the departments to ensure the accurate delivery of medications to the patients. Auxiliary President Teresa Moran passed away unexpectedly in January. The Auxiliary presented the SJMH Special Delivery Center with chair/beds for each OB room. The American Cancer Society conducted a wellness survey for the Hospital. Mary Ellen Bragg was named Chief Nursing Officer. Jimmy Lattea was named Employee of the Year for the second time. Billie Harris, of SJMH's Materials Management Department and Lucille Hicks, of the Surgery Department, retired. Dr. Doug Tice joined the office of Dr. Snead at Weston Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Center. He began offering minimally invasive knee surgery. Dr. Charles Lively retired from his medical practice after serving Lewis County for 50 years in July and passed away on Dec. 16. Maintenance employee Nelson Riffle retired. Lithotripsy were added to SJMH's services.
Physical Therapy
In 1972, Stonewall Jackson completed construction of a new, 70-bed hospital on U.S. 33, at the western edge of the city. The $4,000,000 facility was considered to be one of the finest hospitals for its size in the country. It featured two operating rooms, two X-ray rooms, two labor rooms, one delivery room and 10 OB rooms. The parking lot accommodated 120 cars and 127 people were employed here. Emil Baldwin was the administrator and Elden H. Pertz, M.D., was the Chief of Staff. The hospital offered physical therapy, inhalation therapy, and a coronary care unit.
