I HAVE LIVED IN SAN ANTONIO OFF AND ON FROM 1987 AND ON. I HAVE SERVED IN THE MILITARY AND HAVE TRAVELED THE WORLD AND HAVE EATEN SEAFOOD AND FOOD FROM THE PHILLIPINES TO SOUTH AMERICA. LA PLAYA SEAFOOD IS BY FAR THE BEST AND FRESHEST SEAFOOD YOU WILL EVER HAVE IN YOUR ENTIER LIFE. EVERYTHING THEY SERVE THE IS THE FINEST QUALITY AND THE FRESHEST TASTE AND FLAVOR. I PERSONALY LOVE THE COMBINATION PLATE THAT COMES WITH THE FRIED FROG LEGS. YES, THATS CORRECT FROG LEGS. NOW, NOT ONLY DO THEY HAVE GREAT SEAFOOD DISHES, THE DO HAVE MENU SELECTIONS THAT ARE EXACTLY WHAT YOU WOULD GET IN HOME CONTRIES. FOR EXAMPLE, THEY HAVE A PORTION OF THE MENU THAT IS NOTHING BUT PLATES FROM HONDURAS. NOW, MY WIFE IS FROM HONDURAS AND THE CHICKEN PLATE THAT THE SERVE THERE SHE STATES IS JUST LIEK IF NOT BETTER THAN WHAT YOU WILL FIND DIRECTLY IN HONDURAS. THEY ALSO FETURE PLATES FROM EL SALVADOR AS WELL. TO TOP EVERYTHING OFF THERE PRICES ARE THE BEST IN TOWN. FOR THE QUALITY AND AMOUNT OF FOOD THAT YOU GET IT IS HANDS DOWN THE BEST DEAL IN TEXAS. ALSO, THERE AGUAS DE FRESCAS ARE TOP NOTCH. I WOULD RECOMEND THIS RESTAURANT TO ANYONE WHO WANTS TO BE FULL AND KEEP THE COST TO AN MINIMUM. A FAMILY OF FOUR COULD EASILY EAT THERE FOR UNDER THIRTY DOLLARS AND HAVE TO TAKE HOME FOOD.
Bad service, bad, greasy, fishy fish. Gumbo was ok except for the tough tasteless shrimp they threw on top.\r \r Should have known the bbq and seafood were a bad combination. My worst dining experience in San Antonio.
41. The Sandbar
Small restaurant, intimate setting, frosted windows, modern feel. Servers are helpful with newcomers so don't be intimidated to ask for suggestions, especially regarding raw oysters. Don't expect your typical cooked seafood. Sashimi, Lobster Rolls, Crabcake sandwiches are usually on the menu.…
I too had seafood poisoning at this location. I had fever, cramps, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and was in bed for over two days. I should have gone to the ER, or hospital I was very sick.
I threw a surprise party for my 18th Daughter on Jan. 30th 2010 @ Camaron Pelado Seafood. The staff was the absolute BEST!! The servers were wonderful, the food was great. I can't say enough about the splendid job they all did. Camaron Pelado Seafood was recommended by several other folks tha…
48. Rudy's Seafood
My parents have been bringing us here since we were babies and now in my late 30's I am true to this establishment when it comes to the best fried fish in San Antonio! Huge portions of fresh made fish with a heap of fries in a brown paper sack is the only way it's done! Everything is fresh to or…

I love their soft shelled crabs mainly because they are the only restaurant in San Antonio that serves them. Prices are too high but I will pay it when I need a soft-shelled crab fix.
Fun local place with live music and nice patio. I'm not a big seafood person but they have good sandwiches/salads. The real reason to go though are their sweet potato fries - SO GOOD!!!
I have eaten lunch at this La Playa location at least monthly for several years now. Their food is delicious and reasonable priced. Where else can you get a seafood lunch special for $5.99? My favorite is the Filete Flameado which is a fish, shrimp, garlic, and cheese delight. I cringed at the other review posted about the "reused" shrimp cocktail and I have to say I was surprised. The food is always fresh and I would be disappointed if that really happened. Take a look at the El Salvadorean section of the menu and be sure to order a pupusa. I recommend the shrimp and cheese. Here's your chance to also try the authenic fried platains with cream and beans. Beware of anything that says mojo de ojo (drenched in garlic) because it could be overwhelming. I recall my mouth was almost numb from all the garlic on the fish I once tried. Mexican food is served here as well, but it would be a sin to not eat seafood at this restaurant. The staff is always friendly, efficient, and usually willing to explain some of the foreign items on the menu. Get there by 11:30 on Friday's during the Lenten Season or you will not find parking or an available table.
The atmosphere is fun and relaxing. We had reservations at 9:00 on a Tuesday night and were informed that they were running late. After finding a seat at a very vibrant and fun bar, the folks behind the bar were offering a taste of wine before we committed to a bottle. Unfortunately the same treatment did not follow us to the table. The server(RANDY) asked a few questions and then disappeared without explanation(we noticed food arriving at his other table, but he just left). When he had time to take our order the essentials were met, but there was very litle follow up and no real concern about our experience. We normally tip by service and not the check......this evening we probably paid too much. The food was fresh, competent and hot. It was also by formula and safe. We are not sure if it was the size of our bill, but we felt unappreciated by the server. The unprofessional service made our evening a disappointment. We will continue to hope that more local restauranteurs can make for a more unique experience. ;
Fantastic patio, great atmostphere, stellar menu and friendly service. Definitely not your typical San Antonio dining experience. The calamari appetizer is one of the best I have had, and the fresh sourdough bread is a perfect complement to their salads. However, they are huge, definitely best to split. Even if you split the 1/2 salad, you will have more than enough. The Sole is magnificent, and the sides are served family style, so everyone gets to try a little bit of everything. The desserts are fantastic, just remember that you need to order them BEFORE your dinner. Make reservations early in the week for the weekend...they book up fast.
Great casual place with oh so friendly waitstaff. Sometimes extremely busy and have to ask for condiments several times but overall great food and staff. Been going there since it opened up. We love the Yvette sauce on our fish. Mahi is great when they've got it. Our grandkids know they want to eat there when it comes to seafood and the alligator they love. Our family gatherings are so enjoyable we keep coming back for the atmosphere, food and the super desserts....Droooling already. Prices are regulated according to its rank in seafood plates which are fair. Bring out-of-town visitors too. RM
This is a south side institution. Fresh fist, tasty tartar sauce, and to top it off, fresh green serano peppers. WE usually order the fisherman's platter, which is described as having 2 pieces of fish, 4 shrimp, oysters, and a stuffed crab. You usually get 3 fish, 6 shrimp, a heap of oysters, and 1 crab. Plus french fries and coleslaw, feeds the three of easily. We sometimes have to add a side and extra tartar sauce, but its still a great deal at around $17. Truely one of san antonio's hidden treasures.
I followed them to their new location and it is a beautiful spacious dining room. The menu offers a lot of variety, meat snd poultry although i usually go with the seafood, or one of the many fish selections and yummy sauces. The bread is always hot and I love the cilantro oil for dipping. The price point is reasonable, the service impeccable (truly) and it's nice for a small or large group, or a 1x1. I am never disappointed the food and service is consistently scrumptious.
The food @ J Anthony's is pretty good and prices are very reasonable....the staff there are very friendly and very helpful as far as describing what comes w/the orders..My 1st experience was very good and so far all the other times I have been there have been just as good...I have never eaten there @ the restaurant, just ordered take out...which in my opnion is usually were restaurants tend to mess up the most and that has never been the case.... GREAT JOB !!!
From the smell when you first walk in to the cleanilness of the tables it is not what you would think a rest. with these kind of prices would be like. The service was at best O K but hearing staff talk about personal lives and what happened yesterday is not to my liking. The manager or owner as he stated he was didnt look like he was really interested in being there. I well not be going back and I will not be telling my friends to go there.
I threw a surprise party for my 18th Daughter on Jan. 30th 2010 @ Camaron Pelado Seafood. The staff was the absolute BEST!! The servers were wonderful, the food was great. I can't say enough about the splendid job they all did. Camaron Pelado Seafood was recommended by several other folks that had hosted parties there. Alma you rock!!! Thanks again for the great party you helped put together!! My daughter LOVED it.... =D
