I got a cat here who's lovely, but I was not impressed with the facility itself. To meet my cat, I had to sit in a little room with glass windows on all sides, and while I was meeting animals, children hovered around me and pounded on the glass, disturbing both me and the animals. Even adults would stop and cry, "Oh how cute!" This was incredibly inappropriate. To make matters worse, I had to wait roughly 15-20 minutes between seeing each cat. With four cats, that's about an hour I spent waiting just to see the animals. That's terrible. On a side note, most of the cats were well over a year old, and most had a laundry list of health issues. The one I found was a year old, and she was one of the youngest ones. There were maybe two kittens in the entire place, and even they had a ton of stuff wrong with them. Now, the kicker: When I got the cat, it hadn't had a fecal float done yet, and the person handling my adoption told me their clinic would do the fecal float free of charge. As you might imagine, I was surprised when I called their clinic to schedule an appointment, and I was told I'd have to pay for the test. So, Westland's Humane Society lied to me point blank. Fantastic. I'm not impressed with Westland's Humane Society. Adopt a pet there at your own risk. Me? If I adopt again, I'm going elsewhere.
We took our Roseville Michigan Brownie Troop to the Westland Center on Saturday, March 23rd for a scheduled tour and to drop off blankets and wish list items they had collected. It was very disappointing to be ignored and left waiting over an hour for our "tour guide" employee to show up. Is this the message you want to give 7 and 8 year olds about caring and givng to homeless animals? I have been donating funds to the Michigan Humane Socity for many years but this facility has really disapponted me.The Detroit facility may not be as fancy, but they are certainly more professional and courtesy.Jean TerryRoseville Michigan
