All it takes is a little preparation to get your car winter-ready and to keep from getting into an icy situation.
It’s time to bring long sleeves and long pants out of storage, prep your home and car, and contact the cool weather home/yard contractors.
I have been in the market for a new car for months. I am very passionate about automobiles and have been in the tire industry for over 3 years. After doing a lot of research and visiting the Cleveland auto show, I knew that the newly designed 2013 Honda accord sport is for me. My only dilemma was what Honda dealership do I want to make my purchase at? I went onto autotrader and submitted some information on what I was looking for. These names came to mind: Mike Pruitt, Classic, Park, and Jay. I've been to Park Honda before and felt their customer service was not at the level I expected, they were out. I've spoke to Jay Honda and they seemed very nice and customer oriented, however they are located in Bedford. I live in Cuyahoga Falls and drive pass Mike Pruitt on Route 8 almost everyday and they were the first people to send me an e-mail asking for my business. Many of my own friends and customers purchased vehicles from Mike Pruitt and I've only heard good things. The first response shows that they are ambitious and really want to earn my business. This was the obvious dealer to visit first. I came in on a weekday and they were slow. I was greeted as soon as I walked in and asked for the sales person that emailed me. He greeted me and remembered the e-mail. We went for a test drive and it was everything I had expected. I would return on Saturday to make the "deal". I got a great price and a fair value for my trade in, but the friendliness and personability of the staff is what sealed the deal. They earned my business and me as a customer. I want to thank Marvin Maffett for his persistance and service.
UPDATE ON ORIGINAL REVIEW: We ended up calling the customer service for all of Goodyear and they were excellent. They did not accuse us of anything and they were very helpful. Goodyear overall deserves 5 stars in my book, however, I would caution anyone who goes to the Akron branch to really pay attention to what they do ............................................................................................................................................................................. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I am so not happy with Goodyear right now. We payed for 4 new tires for Chris' car a week ago and now he has a flat tire and we apparently don't have the roadside hazard warranty. What makes me even more angry is that the sales associate is telling us both that he asked us and somehow we both denied it (which we would never do). And he is the only one between the three of us who remembers that part of the conversation? I don't think so! But apparently the other people who work there (who weren't even in the room then, mind you) also say that Chris denied it. So now on top of the ridiculous amount we paid for the tires in the first place we have to pay for half of the new one. And then get the warranty for all 4. This could have all been avoided if they had actually asked us about the warranty and then had us initial next to it when we supposedly denied it. 1. Don't look me in the face and call me a liar. 2. Goodyear will never have my business again.
Most people including my wife and I consider buying cars as somewhat stressful as it rates 2nd to buying a house. Anytime you're spending a considerable amount of money. Janice and I for the first time in our lives decided to our two vehicles at the same time. We had narrowed the brand we were going to buy down to two, either a Honda or a Toyota. I wanted a coupe or sports edition and Janice wanted a sedan, so we were looking at the Honda Accord Sedan EXL and Coupe and the Toyota Camry XLE and SE. I ultimately went for the Honda Accord Coupe and my wife initially was going to get the Toyota Camry XLE, however Toyota had to order the vehicle since they had none on their lot that matched what she wanted on the car. While we were dealing for my Honda Accord Coupe, the service we were getting from Ed Bell and getting the opportunity to meet Jason, Marvin, Jacob, Dave G., Tom Brown and Justin Miller my wife was starting to reconsidered her decision. Ultimately my wife reconsidered and we came home with the Accord Sedan EXL this evening. She reconsidered because of the people working at the dealership and the service we were getting from Ed and others. So give all your staff at Mike Pruitt Honda a big slap on the back and an atta boy because they are the reason we bought both cars from your dealership. Ed Bell was a great sales person and it was a pleasure dealing with him.
From the time we walked into the dealership to the time we left, we had excellent service. Marcus came in on his day off to work with us and we test drove two vehicles before I decided on the vehicle we ended up purchasing. He was very knowledgeable and answered all of my questions. He did not try to talk us into any additional options or an upgrade. He was very pleasant and personable. The paperwork we signed did not take long at all. We have purchased from two other local Honda dealerships in the past and this was by far the best experience I have had. My van was delivered to me sparkling on the inside and out and Marcus made sure I was comfortable with everything before we drove off. No other dealership can compare to the service we received and the hassle-free overall experience. My entire family loves the vehicle and we are very happy with our decision. I cannot say enough about this dealership and we will be sure to be back again when it's time for another vehicle.
This is the third Honda I have leased from Mike Pruitt, so I feel like I am dealing with "family" rather than a group of strangers. Buying or leasing a vehicle can be very stressful and I have experienced that with previous purchases from other dealers, that is not the case with this purchase. I was helped immediately upon arrival, & Lynn greeted me like I was an old friend - this is the second lease Lynn has handled for me. I was informed of each document I needed to sign and what it represented by both Lynn & Tom, and the process moved along smoothly during a busy time in the showroom. Lynn took the time to go over all of the features of the car so I would be comfortable during the test drive & of course when I left the dealership with my new car. I will recommend Mike Pruitt Honda & Lynn to my friends, family & co-workers looking for a new car. I will, of course, be back in 36 months for a new one myself.
I definitely recommend Mike Pruitt Honda! I felt that the staff cared about each customer and was not simply interested in making a sale. Superior in terms of customer service. The way that I was treated as a customer and the thoroughness, knowledge, and professionalism of the staff, as well as the Honda reputation was what influenced my decision to conduct business with Mike Pruitt Honda. I was VERY impressed with the Clinic that was held for the customers so that we would have more complete knowledge and understanding of the features of Honda cars, products and services. I found all of this information to be very beneficial. The Clinic combined professionalism with a human touch while refreshments were offered as well. The dealership was well maintained - a clean professional environment with knowledgeable, courteous staff and a good product to sell spoke volumes about this dealership!!!
I leased a car from Great Lakes Honda in June of June 2014. I had one of the worst experiences ever. The guy who sold my car did not explain anything to me about my payments or how a lease worked. I was a young women that did not know anything about a lease and he took advantage of that. I told my self I would never re-new my lease with Great Lakes. I went in for an oil change a couple months ago and met Ed Bell. Ed was very kind and honest about the whole leasing process and how it worked. He went out of his way to make me feel comfortable while waiting for my car to be done. Ed explored every option that was best for me to continue leasing with Great Lakes Honda. I now am leasing a new Honda Civic at an amazing deal all thanks to Ed Bell! I would recommend anyone who is in need of a care to go see Ed Bell at Great Lakes Honda! Jenna
I knew Marcus Morris was going to make it a great experience from the time I walked in the door. Wonderful experience. Highly Recommend to others looking for a Honda sale. He was efficient, quick, knowledgeable, took the time needed from start to finish. At NO point did we feel pressured or uncertain about the features on the Honda or our purchase. Marcus was a great salesman, continued thru the whole process with a smile on his face, proud to be an employee, and excited about his ability to service a customer with our wants and needs. We have purchased Chevy's my entire life from the same dealer and never had the quality experience Marcus provided. Mike Pruitt Honda should be very proud to employee such a great asset to the car sales business. Shout out to Marcus and thank you for a wonderful experience!!!
This was one of the first times in many years I have gone to speak to a dealer as all of my previous experiences were terrible. We dealt with Marcus Morris and he did not pressure us in anyway, no hassles and was very helpful when I asked questions he answered all of them with no problem. We also didn't have to spend half of my day there which I sure appreciated. He also worked with us to get us the price and payment we were looking for and when he said he would call us at home he did exactly that. I meant to tell him when we left how much I appreciated him and being so nice and helpful. I have already been recommending this dealership to my friends as I know where my business will stay. This truly was one of the best buying experiences with a vehicle I have had in a very long time. Thank you
Had to post because I was flabbergasted by what I saw in the other reviews. These people have to be talking about a different place. Here are some things Fred's has done for me over the years: -took my clunker in for a new serpentine. Fred shopped around for bargain prices and called me before he installed--concerned I would pay too much to fix a beater. - was having battery issues. Fred looked at and fixed for no charge. -picked me up and driven me home - they accidentally misdiagnosed a wheel bearing issue. Fixed one wheel free of charge for the mistake. -have always been willing to "hold" checks so you're sure you can pay. Yes, it is a small family business, but these people are the nicest, most fair, honest I have ever dealt with. Don't listen to the haters, Fred's is wonderful.
There are more than 700,000 auto service technicians and mechanics in the U.S. Finding the right one to repair a dent in your car door or fix an engine that won't start can be overwhelming, especially when it's an emergency. Review a few important facts about auto repair professionals and what you can do to get the best possible mechanic working on your vehicle's issues for a fair price.
Looking For Reliability
Unlike home repair services that evaluate a property, meet with homeowners and have time to prepare before their physical work begins, auto repair businesses are often asked to make fixes on the spot. If you come into a garage with a tire issue, the expectation is the mechanic will know how to correct that problem quickly.
That is why reliability is so vital when searching for a trusted auto repair shop. It may take going to several different mechanics before you find one you are truly comfortable with. Pose questions to this professional to find out what approach they will take to repair your car or what alternatives are available. Shopping around also gives you the best opportunity to find the cheapest rate or the fastest service, as some garages may be backed up with other vehicles that need repair first.
A recommended way to locate a trustworthy auto repair professional is to seek out customer reviews. Online sites offer honest opinions from real customers who have used a business. Read through this feedback to learn how a business operates and what you can expect if you were to take your vehicle there. Look for reviews about how quick maintenance was completed and if prices were fair. By learning what other people have said about a garage, you can gain a better idea if it's the right place to go when you have a car problem in need of fixing.
It can be difficult to know which automotive problems are serious enough to require expert assistance. A ripped seat cushion or broken radio don't involve safety and will not warrant enough of a problem that going into a garage is required. However, setbacks with brakes, lights and other parts that are vital to the safety of your car's driver and passengers, as well as others on the road, necessitate quick fixes. Many modern automobiles will notify drivers of an issue, in the form of a signal on the dashboard or a noise within the vehicle.
In the event of an accident, even if your vehicle does not appear to have any damage on the outside, it is generally recommended that you see a trusted auto repair professional. Internal damage may have occurred, or an important part may have been knocked out of place. Fixing these issues before driving much further can prevent further vehicle breakdowns in the future. In the case of a serious accident, a body shop can assess the problems and determine the best course of action for repairs, as well as evaluate how much they will cost.
Beyond that, regular checkups are recommended. Tires must be rotated, fluids needs to be replaced and the engine must be evaluated. After driving 25,000 miles, most auto dealers suggest having the vehicle checked out to ensure everything is running smoothly. Taking the car into the auto repair professional you trust will protect you from further problems down the road.
Not every type of auto repair work needs to be done by a certified mechanic. You can fix some of a vehicle's issues just by paying attention to how the automobile is running and having a basic understanding of auto repair. Look over the ways weather may impact your car and what preventative measures you can take to avoid having to take it into the shop. At the same time, be aware of mechanic scams that can impact your experience.
Preventing Trips To The Professional
Some fixes to your car can be done without paying a specialist. Issues like replacing oil and air filters are relatively simple, with instructions provided in the owner's manual on how to make these changes. The same goes for replacing broken windshield wipers or burnt-out headlights. Such issues should be repaired quickly to guarantee safety, but don't require a visit to a garage. By handling these types of tasks on your own, you'll gain a better understanding for how your car operates and save time and money.
Along with understanding how to fix manageable vehicle issues that may arise, taking preventative measures to avoid future problems is a valuable time saver. Many problem-solving best practices are related to the seasons. Your vehicle will be in different conditions in the winter than in the summer, meaning it requires a different type of preparation.
In the spring and summer, you want to be sure your air conditioner and cooling systems work correctly. Given the high temperatures the vehicle will be exposed to, overheating is a common problem. Look over the system by ensuring there is enough coolant available. If it needs to be refilled, it is best to open the hood and add more to the car before it gets too warm out. Also, clean out fan ducts and other ventilation sources necessary for summertime driving.
For winter driving, features such as the defroster, heater and exhaust system are paramount. Look in your owner's manual for specific directions on how features should be checked and repaired. Many newer cars have a cabin air filter that can be replaced when needed, allowing warm air to continue to flow in. Also, check your tires before winter driving, as they need to be at the proper pressure to perform well on snow and ice.
There is a common worry among many people that auto repair professionals take advantage of the general public. Because so many people are unaware of how to fix the problems in their vehicle, they are nervous of being overcharged by mechanics or worried that the improper work is being done.
While the great majority of professionals in the industry are honest, hard-working people, a few bad apples can ruin everything. You should be extra careful when first visiting a mechanic to guarantee that the price you're charged and maintenance the vehicle receives are fair.
Among the common scams pulled are needless repairs, where a garage charges you for work that isn't necessary. Another popular one is attracting customers through a cheap oil change or tire pressure check. Then, when you are in the shop and your car is being repaired, they give you a long list of other corrections they'd like to make, therefore boosting the total cost of your bill.
The best way to combat these types of problems is getting a written estimate before work is done. That way, you can see how much repairs are expected to cost. If the final bill is higher than the estimate projected, ask to specifically see the work. Make sure information is put in writing as well. If a problem remains, you can have proof that work was not done to your satisfaction.
By working closely with an auto repair professional and doing some of the tune-up work on your own, you will be less likely to fall for these scams. At the same time, you'll be able to drive out with a clean and healthy vehicle, thanks to the repairs made by a trained professional.
