Great food on the mountain

Friendly service, a menu with imagination and high quality ingredients, prepared with care. Try the chilaquiles or chorizo scramble for breakfast, excellent carnitas for lunch or dinner. Great stop going to or from the mountain.

Good tamales, questionable staff

El Burro Loco has great food and a quaint little atmosphere. It is to bad some of the employees are kind of unpleasant.

I was really quite impressed with the mushroom tamales and all the other vegetarian entrees on the menu. They have reasonable prices and really great food. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone driving up to one of the resorts on Mt. Hood. Its a very convenient place to stop and refuel! Be prepared to take your time though.

We had a great waitress but the girl who helped us at our table at first was a taller larger girl with very shaggy messy hair and a nose ring. She was short spoken and unfriendly, we watched her grow more and more unpleasant and even text message on her phone for a while and ignore customers. No one else working there seemed to notice. All in all the place was nice and pleasant I suppose she just stuck out like a sore thumb.

It didn't take away from our experience but we probably could not say the same thing for the other customers there that night. I recommend going but make sure to get the right staff.

Great Mexican food, awesome eclectic specials, friendly staff.

Living up here, I've been in every restaurant on the mountain, and El Burro Loco is the only one that I frequent. The combination of non pretentious, friendly down to earth service, great Mexican food that doesn't tear me up like most, and thirteen tap handles keeps me coming back. They also make great specialty Margaritas and a killer Mojito.

They make everything from scratch, including their chips and (the best) salsa and sauces. (ask for the ""firewater"") :)

Don't hesitate to give El Burro Loco a try, I think that you'll enjoy it.

Did I mention that they have thirteen tap handles?

Scorned repeat customers

Being a local, I think we're more critical of the businesses in our area. We go to (or went to as of yesterday) el Burro Loco at least twice weekly. It's not so much the food that's an issue, it's the extremely terrible service. I mean terrible, horrible service. It's slow, the waitstaff is rude and airheaded; people who come in 20 minutes after you will be fed before you are; and they will take forever just to acknowledge you once you arrive. The service has become even worse since they opened the cantina. Dinner is a long, arduous process, and the staff is always rushed and full of excuses as to why you can't get a refill on your water while you're waiting forever for your food, and why it's taking so long to just get you a refill on your salsa and chips because you're dying of hunger waiting for the ktichen to produce food that is made up of all the same ingredients in different configurations. It's mexican food, for Christs's sake, not gourmet.

Every once in a while, your irritation is softened by a good special. But almost every time we've been there, it's been horribly slow, even when there aren't too many people there. Last night, they'd restricted dining to the cantina, but let the restaurant open, and the server then went off on us for being in the restaurant and lamented having to serve us there, and told us to expect slow service. In truth, despite his professions of service being slower than usual, it really wasn't. It's always this agonizingly slow, and we are always agonizingly ignored. He offered to refill our drinks after we'd paid; and while sat there, three couples came in, sat down, were ignored, and left. His apology to one couple as they left was a defensive smattering of excuses.

If you're busy, you call people in. If you're only serving one part of hte restaurant, then close the other side. Don't berate customers for being there when they have no way of knowing otherwise... and don't act like customers are just burdens.
