Some of the worst customer experience I have ever had! Steve the owner is a joke and seems like a good guy until he has your money then go ahead and wait for months for your project to be complete and of poor workman ship! Would never use them again for any service! Go elsewhere.
This company put a front porch/deck over an existing cement slab in Aug 2016 and it transformed the look of my house. In June 2017, I hired them to do the same thing to the back slab of my house. The contract was written to reset and cover a support post for $200. The post was never removed. Boards were cut around the post. the contract was written like the one for the front deck. The front deck received skirting, the back did not. A nail gun was used for board attachment. One of the nails is bent and it is causing the board to split. Calls to the company are received with a promise of a return call and the return call is never received. Calls to the salesman go unanswered. The most frustrating thing is that there is no communication for a resolution.

We had our deck done by Killer deck in Aug. 2010. Please don't ever go with them. They are the worst people to deal with. They will give you good price and take deposit from you promising you that they will start the job in 5 weeks but will not start for months. They made us sign contract in beginning of May 2010 saying that they will start work in June. They did not show up till August. We had a big function at our home in August and they had promised us that they will finish the job by 1st week of July. We called them several times but the lady who answered the phone call was the rudest person I ever heard over the phone. Finally they showed up in August just 5 days before my function. But did not build according to city code and city did not approve the plan. Till today my problem is not resolved. We tried to work with Steve but he is impossible to even talk to. He is the most unprofessional person to be in the business.
I would never advise anybody to go with them. If you are still going with them, please don't make full payment even if the job is completed, till the city approves your deck. They will make changes to the plan to make it easier for them which might be against city code.
This company is a joke. Good luck getting anything done once you pay. Beleive me, you will need repairs done. They might as well just have the tail light warranty. Because once you have paid and they leave, it's all over from there. Do yourself a favor and go to a more professional company.
WE HAVE DONE THOUSANDS OF DECK IN METRO DETROIT, HAVE A 2 YEAR WARRANTY ON LABOR RELATED ISSUES. SHOULD YOU USE TREATED LUMBER FOR YOUR DECK, IT WILL SPLIT, CRACK , AND WARP, THIS IS A NON WARRANTY ISSUE BUT A BAD CHOICE OF PRODUCT ON YOUR PART.

JUNE 22 2011 SHED- A copy of the letter I wrote recently. Dear Mr. Scholl, I wanted to express my utter joy with my new storage shed. The fact is, nothing could make it any better or stronger. I sought out a few quotes locally and I was disappointed with the lack of professionalism. Either the company would not show up for a scheduled appt, not return my call or not be able or willing to build to my specifications. I wanted a shed that didn’t look like a typical shed. I wanted it to mirror my home as close as possible. I also did not want to be a slave to the maintenance of this shed. Well, I should have known Killer Decks was the place to go since I’ve done business with you a few times in the past. But not knowing if you built sheds or not I was taking a chance and hoping you did. When I called to ask if you could build me a shed you immediately said yes! I felt so relieved because I knew I was going to be happy without any concerns. Then I came by and you took the time to draw the design out and it was perfect for what we needed. This was custom work. We absolutely love the new shed. Pete was such a hard worker, never even taking a break on his own, I had to force him to stop to drink water and have some pizza. He is probably the hardest working man I have ever met. When I met him and saw how big his forearms were I knew this man was a hard worker! He never complained about the ridiculous heat we had, he never missed a beat. I thought he was crazy digging the rat wall perimeter by hand since we have solid clay but he did it in one day, the hottest day in Michigan! He is really something and I’m so glad I was able to meet him. I grew tired of hearing “ we don’t do that” while getting quotes or someone telling me that “you don’t need that “ these people call themselves your competition. Frankly, you have no competition as the others who claim they build decks and sheds etc are a bunch of lazy people who for the most part cannot lift the phone to return a call or show up for an appointment. Every time I ask Killer Decks if they can build me something all I hear is YES. The new shed, is built better than my home, and is so strong it would be a safer place to be during a storm. I guarantee you that no other company would be using 2 x 6’s for the roof rafters and joists; actually they would not even put in joists. And forget studs being 16 on center the rest do 24 on center. But when you want quality you learn to go to Killer Decks. I am proud to be able to refer your company to all my friends and neighbors and I look forward to my next project with Killer Decks . You know you hear on the news daily that the economy is bad and that people are not spending money. Well we are spending money just not with unprofessional companies who are lazy. This is why you are so busy and why people flock to your company, YOU CARE !!!!! Thank you again for the best experience I have ever had. You and your company are truly the best of the best, and above all the rest. I also want to thank Amber for being so helpful during this process. She is a pleasure to speak with.

Please don't fall to this company's trap. They might seems pretty good and cheap before you sign the contract with them but everything change after you pay the deposit. They got so much hidden charges and their services are very very bad. You can check their score on Better Business Bureau. They got ""F"".

I am in the landscaping industry. I have a lot of customers who contact me for their landscaping, and for many years I've always had a hard time finding a realible deck builder to recommend.
For the past ten years, I've been overly impressed with Killer Decks. I've never had any issues with their top-notch quality, price, and services. They are quick, reasonable, and work hard to stand by what they build. My customers want the best, and Killer Decks has provided just that!
I continue to recommend them to anyone and everyone.

Killer Decks built my deck about 8-10 years ago on my house out in Ypsilanti. I still love it to this day, and continue to get great compliments on how attractive your design is. In fact, I had your team out to make a repair about 5 years ago, and it's held up perfectly. All I have to do is maintain the beautiful paint-job you designed, and I get to enjoy it year after year.
I am 100% satisfied after 10+ years w/your work!! In fact I'm so happy that I'm considering Killer Decks for my basement finishing as well!
owning a landscape company and offering decks to my customers I wouldnt think of using any other contractor.Killer decks has built over 200 quality decks for me and NEVERhave we had a single complaint. They have the best product line available with the most skilled carpenters to install it.
My house was built in 2000, River Woods subdivision in Canton. I had to make a difficult decision as to what contractor to build my deck. I met with several local deck builders with very similar designs until I met the owner Steve from Killer Decks. He took the time to come to my house and sit down and discuss several different ideas and offered some creative designs. Killer Decks wasn't the cheapest or most expensive, they were reasonably priced in the middle, however their unique lighted kingposts and steps were something no one else offered. Steve was straight up honest with the different material choices and offered pros and cons, didn't push anything on me.
We agreed on a plan and price and then everything went smoothly. Work began within 2 weeks and it was completed within 5 days after they began. I am very happy with my deck, even 10 years later! Several of my neighbors used mine as a model for their decks. I've hosted several outdoor parties on the deck and always get compliments on the design, how solid it is, and how cool it looks at night with all the lights. I have recommended Killer Decks to 2 friends that also had new houses built in the area and they had similar positive results.
So in summary, there are a lot of deck builders out there and its risky not knowing what you'll get. However, I am extremely pleased with my deck and decision to use Killer Decks, and I highly recommend them to build your deck!
Killer Decks came out and gave me a quote to re-do my old cedar deck. Steve blew our minds away with the new design, price and his wide range of knowledge! I never would have imagined that I could have a composite deck. I now have a beautiful new deck, and money left over! Killer Decks did a great job on communicating with me, and did a beautiful job on my new deck!
All my neighbors are jealous of the outstanding quality and overall look of my new deck!

Our neighbors thought it looked nice too when it was first built. Like others are posting, the deck starts falling apart stucturally after several years. Really hope that you have better construction than others posting here. Should problems develop, after you have already paid for your job, you may live the real Scholl experience which is not a good one.
Nobody wants to think that a job they just paid hard earned money for was not a good decision, so defend it you must.
For those that keep bragging about the cheap cost, there is a saying that YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.
We learned the hard way. Our posting is to let others know so to avoid the same headache and $$$cost we experienced fixing the problems his company made.
If you don't learn from other's history with this company, you are doomed to repeat it. Why take the chance?

Mr. Scholl, If you were as dedicated to your customers as you profess to be, you would not have to address any ""character assination"" issues on these various boards across the city.
Fact is: Your contractor ""Terry"" built our deck in 2001, as well as two others in our Brooklane Ridge neighborhood in Northville. All three are in various states of flat out disrepair - unlike any other decks built in this sub at the same time by other contractors. But, let's just stick to ours... By year two the deck was sagging. Your solution was to move two beams onto the surface of our patio - without footings. This caused the stairway to sway and dislodge itself from the actual deck. Further calls to you to repair this correctly were considered ""out of warranty"" and you did nothing! The deck is now the laughing stock of the neighborhood and was recently identified by a legitimate contractor as a ""Killer Deck"" at first glance. I have an entire CD of photos relating to the above if you'd like to take a look. I'm certain you know who we are and I think you should ride your motorcycle over here and take a look at ""your deck"" and then you can tell us just how proud you are of the job you did. Character assination???? No. Just plan old poor workmanship and the lack of character to fulfill your responsibilities to your customers, as promised. Come take a look!

Killer decks has been in business 25 years. I build 200 decks a year for 199 very satisfied customers. I find it simply unbelievable that anonymous people using pseudonyms can write scathing reviews and pottential customers will use this info as ""due diligence"". We only take a $500.00 deposit and get paid when the job is done. At that point we use a 32 point checklist that the homeowners and carpenters go over and sign. We get permits, pass the inspections. Than get paid the balance. I have my own lumber yard, and e-commerce site. THEDECKBARN Killerdecks is the most complete and comprehensive deck builder in the state of Michigan perhaps the midwest

TERRIBLE MANAGEMENT, WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE. YOU DO NOT WANT TO DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY. I also tried to add testimonial to their website and but they don't let you. The owner STEVE is terrible. If he had come to give an estimate, we would have never given them the contract. He yelled nonstop when I called and then hung up on me. I wish I had seen these bad reviews before. I am now really worried about the quality of the deck too.
They company are so unprofessional and have really really bad service. All they want is more money from you. They will charge you a lot money to repair the gutter line and sprinkler that they damage when they dig the holes for posts. They are rated F from Better Business Bureau and F is the worst that they can get. Please do not do any business with this dishonest company. They might be the cheapest quote but you might end up paying much more than you think. This company can only give you 2 year warrantty on the deck, that means they don't have any confidence on the job that they build.

Killer Decks just completed a walk-out deck for us. They tore down an old deck and within one week we had a beautiful composite deck. They know the ropes as far as permits, dealing with our sub association, newest materials and the price. The price we paid was at least 15% less than other quotes and the quality is all there, and the design is THE BEST!
Don't worry-Be happy. Call Killer Decks, and you will get a very fine deck. I would recommend them.
BTW-They can provide references if you wanted, too.
Hi Steve, Sandy and I would like to thank you for building us a beautiful deck. You made it very easy to work with you. From the first day we met, you and your , that's including traveling 250 miles to the job. I don't think theres to many other company's that would have done so.
We are also happy you chose Charlie and his crew to build are deck. They knew what to do and how to do it. With just a little sketch on a piece of paper, Charlie with his imagination, did a couple of things differently that made are deck unique, and that takes talent. We can't thank there families enough for allowing them to be away for this build. Again thanks. Were hoping to do business with you in the future.
