Aldo's is the best Italian restaurant in town, bar none! They do it quietly, respectfully, and deliciously. It's on the smallish side, but believe me, it more than makes up for it in casual coziness and comfort. There's pictures of old Hollywood stars and Italian seascapes on the walls. There's big band, old standards, and some Italian standards playing softly in the background. The music isn't overpowering; you can easily have a conversation with your table companions. Mixed drinks, beers, wines are reasonably priced. The menu, from appetizers to desserts, is carefully and classically constructed. (No deconstructed small plates here!) Menu prices are also quite reasonable. Portions are very good-sized. In other words, you will have something to bring home! Waitstaff are politely low-key but very knowledgable and accomodating. Mixure of booths and tables. Huge pizza oven is the first thing you see when you walk in (They bake their own dinner rolls too). There's a couple of very romantic tables in the front by a stone wall partition. Bathrooms clean and well-maintained. Take-out available. Perfect spot for a quiet, romantic dinner. (If you're local, remember, it's behind the old mall!)
Tried this restaurant for the first time last night. The service was excellent, the menu was varied and the prices were reasonable. We enjoyed our meals, with the exception that they forgot to bring our soup before the entree. (they apologized and packed it and we brought it home, along with half our dinner as the portions were large). We didn't have their Tiramisu, but did have a wonderful rum cake (not made there). I read some of the reviews from when they first opened, but I would recommend at least giving them a try. I know we will go back again. Tried the soups we brought home today.....chicken noodle and pasta fagioli. Both had a decent flavor, however they both lacked substance. (about a dozen beans and a few pieces of pasta in the pasta fagioli and a few slivers of chicken and a couple of pieces of pasta in the chicken noodle). A suggestion for the chef would be to put more substance into the broths.
I'm not sure if I will return. Made a last minute reservation on a Saturday night, which they were able to accommodate. Had a nice atmosphere, and the staff were friendly & attentive. I just was not impressed with my meal. The garlic bread were the rolls that came in the basket that they put out on tables, they just added a little garlic. If I had known I was getting rolls I would not have ordered & paid extra for them. I was very disappointed in the portion size of my meal. I would hate to see the lunch portions. You do not get what you pay for, definitely left there hungry. For $17 I expected more than 1 piece of veal & a tiny bowl of pasta. They definitely need to add a beef dish to the menu. With that being said, the food was good and the ingredients were fresh.
Would highly recommend Tiramisu to others. I wasn't expecting the inside to be as nice as it was and it really surprised me. Food was excellent and the menu was actually much bigger than I expected. I ordered the rissotto which was a special and it was amazing! Not a big tiramisu fan, but I ordered it because I assumed it would be good and I was right. The employees were all very nice( seems like a small family owned business that actually cares about their customers ). I forgot to mention that they have a really nice bar which I intend on returning for. Overall an excellent weekend spot for me and I look forward to going back.
Went for a late dinner on my husband's birthday, the waitress was getting our table ready and the manager came over and said he didn't know if the chef was still cooking, he came back a few minutes later and trew a menu in our faces and said if we picked our dinners right this second, we could eat there. I asked him if we could please sit down first, which we were allowed (now the resaurant was very busy, it didn't seem like they were trying to close). A group of people came in after us and were seated and served dinner with no problem. The food was fine, I don't think we will be going there again with such rude treatment.
Went there with my boyfriend for a nice dinner out. I was disappointed and so was he. We are not people who complain, but considering you just opened the place you want to make a good impression. I didn't like the parmigiana chicken I ordered, it was overcooked and dry. No flavor to it whatsoever, but made no fuss. The drinks were alright considering we just had wine, cheap wine at that. The final bill was absolutely not worth what we ordered, it's waterbury not Boston, come on . Going to our regular restaurants next time where we can have a good meal and good wine.
Zia Cucina is one of Waterburys best kept secrets. A tiny comfortable restaurant serving fine Italian cuisine it is deceiveing from the outside. Tucked behind some buildings outside it wasnt apparent to us immediately when we set out looking for it. We had terrific food with appreciable portion sizes. The service was impeccable. The selection of appetizers waas quite appealing. The cocktails were well priced. They have a nice wine selection and a great classic Italian menu. Zia Cucina - Waterbury CT
Zia's is a perfect first date restaurant. The color scheme is a trendy deep green and purple with beautiful chandeliers hovering above the tables. It's romantic setting includes a cozy dining room, dim-lighting and brick walls covered with photos of classic celebrities like Clark Gable. Food and service was excelent. The best Italian house made pasta dish I have ever eaten in a restaurant. I recommend Zia's Cucina for amazing Italian food? " --
Yesterday was the first time my family and I tried their pizza. It was delicious. They also were very friendly from the phone conversation to the delivery man. And they were fast.. I asked them to be here for 5:30p.m and the delivery man was literally here at 5:29p.m I never had such great service before.. I will officially swear off any other pizza restaurants in Waterbury from now on. And I will tell my friends to do the same.
La Tavola is an awesome place. The food is out of this world, fresh and light. The staff is great! The decor beautiful! It is everything a dining experience should be! If you haven't been, you must! Be sure to make a reservation! You will not be dissappointed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't wait to go back!
