Pediatric Care
It is with mixed emotions that Spring Valley Pediatrics announces the departure of Dr. Ashley Moss. Dr. Moss will be transitioning at the end of May 2023 to a new chapter in her career, away from clinical medicine and into the area of Patient Advocacy and Health Policy. We are excited for her, yet we will miss the wonderful care that she has given to the patients of Spring Valley Pediatrics.

Immunizations
“Pfizerâ€™s COVID-19 vaccine for 5-to-11-year-olds is expected to be authorized for emergency use in the coming days. MCPS is partnering with the countyâ€™s Department of Health and Human Services and Holy Cross Hospital to offer a number of free vaccination clinics for children at schools and county sites once the vaccine is available.”

Neurology
Dr. Howard continued to be very active in the clinical care of children in his office based practice and became nationally recognized as an expert in childhood allergy, eventually becoming chairman of the Department of Pediatric Allergy at Childrenâ€™s Hospital. He was subsequently joined in clinical pediatric practice by Drs. Gordon Daisley and Beale Ong, who continued the tradition of active clinical practice with extensive commitments to Childrenâ€™s Hospital and advancement of the field of pediatrics. Dr. Ong, with training in both pediatrics and pediatric neurology, served as chairman of the medical staff of Childrenâ€™s Hospital and served as consultant to several schools and community organizations throughout northwest Washington. He also was the author of a parenting self-help guide, â€œThe Doctorâ€™s Call Hourâ€ , which was popular in its time. Dr. Daisley retired from active practice in 1985, Dr. Howard in 1988 and Dr. Ong in 2008. Dr Franklin Stroud joined Drs. Howard, Daisley and Ong in early 1970â€™s and maintained a busy practice in general pediatrics with a special interest in learning disabilities until his untimely death in 2008. The current physician members of this venerable Washington institution, now known as Spring Valley Pediatrics, continue to strive to deliver the best of cutting edge, comprehensive pediatric care while continuing the tradition of community service and active participation in medical student education.

Summer is just around the corner and after many months of limited activities during a long winter in a pandemic, many parents and children are looking forward to being outside and enjoying summer camp activities.Â There are important physical and mental health benefits to summer camp.Â Summer camps offer children opportunities for peer interaction, increased independence, leadership roles, exercise and the challenge of trying new things.Â These experiences are even more significant given the social limitations that the COVID-19 pandemic has placed on children.Â It will be important for parents to find summer camps that help children reestablish these important social connections while maintaining the important COVID-19 risk mitigation strategies to keep children healthy while at camp.Â Below are some guidelines to consider when thinking about day camp and sleepaway camp for your children.
