Dr. Janice J Gump, PHD

I was referred to Dr. Larney Gump by my employer's employee assistance program in the wake of a mid-life career crisis. I met with Dr. Gump 3 -4 times a month over a period of a few years to work through my career crisis and several personal issues. This was my first and only experience with psychoanalysis. It was an awkward experience at first, but I appreciate Dr. Gump's professionalism, empathy, guidance. My experience with Dr. Gump dramatically changed the course of my life in a very positive direction. and I credit him for this change and for helping me through this rough patch in my life. I never felt as though Dr. Gump was placing his own interests above mine (as was suggested by a previous reviewer).

As a young man, I was treated by this shrink. I couldn't afford to pay for his therapy on my own, so my mother paid for it. Eventually however I found a public clinic that would treat me on a "sliding scale"- in other words, this public clinic charged me a fee I could afford to pay on my own. In retrospect it would have obviously benefited me to be independent of my mother. After all, I was no longer a child. However both my mother and Larney Gump agreed that it was best for me to continue to be treated by Larney Gump. Unfortunately I listened to this shrink's advice and continued with him, stopping treatment at the public clinic. In retrospect this was a mistake, and it's hard to believe that Larney Gump didn't understand or know that it would be better for me to be independent of my mother. It seems that he put his interest over mine- it was in his interest to keep me as a his customer, rather than me continue at the public clinic. It was in my best interest to continue at the public clinic- but I only see that now, many years later.
