Preventive Care

Dental Care
At Hunting Ridge Animal Hospital we offer a variety of dental services to help keep your pets teeth healthy. During your pets yearly examination it may be determined that they have plaque and tartar which will require a dental cleaning. Routine dentistry involves prophylaxis (ultrasonic cleaning), polishing, and Oravet (a product to help strengthen teeth and build resistance to new tartar).
Vaccination
Hunting Ridge Animal Hospital offers Boarding & Daycare for your pet. While you're on vacation, let your pet vacation with us. You can relax knowing your pet is treated like one of our own. For their safety and the safety of other animals in our care, we do require all dogs be up-to-date on the following vaccinations: Distemper, Bordetella, Rabies, Influenza; dogs must also have a negative fecal. Kitties staying with us require current FVRCPC and Rabies vaccinations, as well as a negative fecal.
Veterinary Ophthalmology
If our veterinarians feel that your pet has a more advanced or specific problem, they may recommend referral to an internal medicine specialist who has expertise is cardiology, oncology, ophthalmology, and neurology.
Behavioral Counseling
Behavioral Counseling can help you and your pet work through frustrating behavior. We can help with things like separation anxiety and inappropriate elimination.
Comprehensive Examination
Physical Examinations are a very important part the assessment of your pet's health care. Wellness exams are recommended at least once yearly on young animals, while older pets need to be examined twice a year. As your pet ages disease conditions occur more commonly. Early detection of health concern allows our veterinarians to more effectively help your pet.

Heart Disease Treatment
Pets undergoing anesthesia are typically pre-medicated with an injectable drug. The pre-medication helps to relax your pet so that full anesthesia can be induced more smoothly and safely. Next, the pet receives intravenous medication to allow induction of gas anesthesia. A tube is then placed into the pet's upper airway, and gas anesthesia keeps your pet comfortably anesthetized during the procedure. While your pet is under anesthesia, he or she will be monitored in much the same way as a human undergoing anesthesia would be. This monitoring includes listening to your pet's heart and lungs, visually assessing your pet's reflexes, and using equipment to monitor your pet's EKG, blood pressure, level of blood oxygen, and body temperature.
Periodontal Disease Treatment
Studies show that 60-80% of all pets over the age of three years has periodontal disease and need dental care. Dental disease in pets causes many problems such as: bad breath, infections spreading to internal organs (liver, kidney, and heart), mouth and gum pain, and loss of teeth.

Wound and Fracture Care
Hunting Ridge Animal Hospital offers general Surgery services which include a variety of common and elective procedures performed under general anesthesia. Commons surgeries include: ovariohysterectomy (spay), castration (neuter), Mass (lump) removal and tissue biopsy, exploratory surgery, removal of gastrointestinal foreign bodies, enucleation (eye removal), cystotomy (removal of bladder stones), and laceration repair.

We offer wellness and preventive medicine, internal medicine, surgical services, dentistry, radiology, ultrasonography, reproductive services and an in house pharmacy. Our hospital also offers a full service boarding kennel as well as luxury suites to take care of your pets needs while you are away.
Laser Surgery
Lasers can be incorporated into surgical procedures. A laser uses an intense beam of light that is precisely focused to cut tissue. The energy contained in the laser beam vaporizes the water found in body tissues, allowing a precise "cut" that seals blood vessels and nerve endings, resulting in less bleeding and pain. Additional benefits of laser surgery include reduced swelling at the surgery site, reduced risk of infection, and a quicker recovery.

Our hospital offers a variety of Internal Medicine services. Internal Medicine is the branch of medicine concerned with the diagnosis, management and nonsurgical treatment of disease affecting the lungs, kidneys, liver, pancreas, spleen, intestinal tract, urinary tract, endocrine system and neuromuscular systems. Diagnostic tests in this area include blood tests, urine tests, tissue biopsies, radiographs, fluid analysis and cytology. Management of internal medicine conditions is typically done with medications, diet and exercise.

Dental prophylaxis is performed while your pet is under general anesthesia. Like all procedures being performed with anesthesia your pet will receive pre-surgical blood work prior to the dental to help ensure your pets safety. Dental prophylaxis involves cleaning the surface of each tooth and scaling below the gum line, where food, bacteria, and tartar build up. The veterinarian also evaluates your pet's teeth for fractures, pockets under the gum line, and other abnormalities. Sometimes teeth need to be extracted so that they do not continue to cause your pet further health problems and pain. If necessary we are able to use dental x-rays in order to help us diagnosis problems that are not visible on the surface.
Microchipping
A Home Again micro-chip is permanent pet Identification. The micro-chip itself has no internal energy source, so it will last the life of your pet. The micro-chip is read by passing a microchip scanner over the pet's shoulder blades. The scanner emits a low radio frequency that provides the power necessary to transmit the microchips unique ID code so your pet is positively identified.

General Pet Care

Senior Pet Care
Hunting Ridge Animal Hospital offers Geriatric/Senior Wellness services for your older pet. As our pets reach their "golden years" they require special care. The veterinarians will not only recommend twice yearly examinations for your senior pets but will also recommend certain early detection screening tests. These tests allow the veterinarian to provide an early diagnosis for some of the common diseases that affect older pets. The earlier we find these diseases the more we can do to control or treat them.
