The chain, corporate based restaurants I have worked at are way more elegant and "fine dining-like" in there appearance. But anyway, not as important. So, she says, "I guess I will let you apply." Now granted, I did tell her that I am a local - and grew up on the beach her crap restaurant sits by. My family has been here for generations at the beach and I always had thought of this place as being really nice, but had never gotten around to going there. I remember asking my parents a while back about it, and they both said, it was "over-priced and not that great" - "It couldn't beat Lynnhaven Fish House or Croakers even if they tried." Beyond that, so I wait for this lady to go and get me an application, waiting for like 15 min in this empty restaurant that is apparently OPEN for business - or it is there dinner period (?). She finally comes back, and says - "here, sit over there..." So I asked, "May I use a pen to fill this out." "No," she replies, "I don't have any." In my head, I'm like WTF?! Is she kidding? NO...she was not kidding. So, I tell her, I'll run out to my car to find one, where I only had a pencil. I come back in and said, hey I hope this pencil is fine. She says, "NO" - "Only fill it out in pen." She tells me to go and bring it back filled out in pen. I get in the car, where my wife is waiting because she went with me prior to run some errands. I tell her this BS of a story and she laughs. She said immediately - I think this is a sign not to ever come here again. I tell her - Yeah, I think you are right. So, were talking about this crazy lady - my wife, is still shocked, as am I. Both of us are very professional people - I am back in school once again and wanted to work at a restaurant part time for a while to make a little extra money and my wife works full time getting ready to go back for anesthesia. I have never had anyone treat me like she did. I felt as if she THOUGHT she was God's gift to the world. So... the next day, I wanted to let her know that I WOULD NOT be coming back to submit an application and to let her know that she can't just treat people like pieces of crap. So, I called and asked for Denise, who appears to be the owner of this "28 year old, established restaurant." I tell her that I won't be coming back and said that she really put a bad taste in my mouth. She said - I am giving you a life lesson, that you don't show up to do a job application without a pen? Am I the only one that thinks this is strange? I can understand being dismissed for showing up inquiring about a job in shorts and a tee-shirt, but asking for a pen to fill out an application is way different? And bizarre. Anyways, so I told her I wanted to let her know that I would not be coming back - She said something else quite demeaning and I told her, you know what, matter of fact, I'll be letting my entire family know to never come there and to spread the word to the MANY people we know in the area. Her reply, "Do you think I am scared? I've been her 28 years!" I said ok maam, that's great and all but the way in which you treat people overboard. She ranted about something else before hanging up. Just want you all to know what type of lady is running this place - Someone who thinks she is God's gift to the world. Guess what Denise, yeah I don't like to be hung up on and I'll make to sure that word of mouth at least gets around to all the people we know to NEVER come to your restaurant and guess what, word of mouth is a powerful thing - and so is the internet. Best of luck in your endeavors. Love - a LOCAL who's family's been here well before your dump of a restaurant ever was thought of. Lastly, yeah I had some time on my hands to write this, but after reading what others have said about your establishment, I can see where they think you are rude and how YOU are perceived by others.

Went there a few nights ago with my wife and was surprised how the overall quality of the place has deteriorated. Our service was very poor (2 waitresses for approximately 15 tables of customers) and my entree which I had ordered there several times in the past and loved it was not at all quality wise what it was on the previous occasions that I had ordered it. I am not a complainer and actually waited a day to write this review so I could be more objective. We will never return to this restaurant again and instead go to a fast food seafood restaurant for 1/10 the cost and enjoy it equally well or more.

To start with, there was a hair in my potatoes so they re did the meal, when I got the meal back, it was not even half the portion that I originally ordered. My fiance and I both spoke to the manager and she was less than pleasent and accused me of putting my own hair in the food, she told us to pay the bill and leave. I left crying, I was so disapointed and mad when I left.

Customer Service is awful here, the worst I've ever seen. I have put together many social events for family and friends; and this was my worst experience yet. The owner, pleasant and accommodating until she receives the non-refundable deposit. From that point on she was CONFRONTATIONAL and EXTREMELY RUDE. She doesnt due written contracts obviously so she can change things as they go, for example our 'cocktail hour' on the deck became cocktail time; which was for only 40 minutes anytime beyond that we'd have to pay an additional $300 to rent the whole deck. When my guest and I arrived on deck at the agreed to time - no one was there to greet us. We finally got a waiter to serve us. The owner appeared irritated that we were not seated in the restaurant at 6pm the time scheduled on the deck. Our supposedly dedicated wait staff was off serving others as well, we waited hours for the main course and several that had steaks had to order something else because they could not cook them right. The owner never came over to ask how things were going, she only appeared when she thought she needed to be confrontational, for example when we weren't filling in the tables like she wanted us to, which was different from what we had agreed too and when two pieces of her seashell collection could not be found. The owner even proceeded to argue with the guest of honor for our event. Based on the lousy service received, I question the acclaimed 30 years of experience the owner is suppose to have... Beautiful setting and Alexander's on the Bay should be thankful for that because it is the only thing that restaurant has going for itself. Would never in a million years recommend this place to anyone, especially not for a big event.

Besides the wonderful view of the beach and bridge, I can't believe this is a such a highly rated restaurant. At a 25% mandatory gratuity one of the waitresses was rude and unfriendly to our guests. Ussually bad service gets 10%. I had a small wedding reception of 30 guests of which only 21 attended. We were charged for the plates of the guests that didn't come. That was never agreed upon. Ms. Denise treated us kindly when we met with her before the wedding and treated us rudely and threatened to call the police when we questioned the bill. She stated it was the norm to charge for a complete guest list even if not all attended and ordered. The duck was a flop along with the calamari. They both were decent when we were trying out her restaraunt (at the menu price) But at twice the price it left alot to be desired. Kids chicken fingers were charged like roasted duck. Cutting and serving our wedding cake was an included service. We bought a cake for 30 people but we didn't have any cake left over after the wedding (see numbers above). Ms. Denise very matter of factly told us that she didn't care about our wedding. She spent a long time explaining how she could have made more money if she hadn't booked with us. She demanded my social security number so I could write her a check, and again threatened to call the police when I objected. She then brought several of her male staff members up front to try and intimidate me even though I never once raised my voice or gave any incling of disrespect. I was very upset and I would have called the police myself had I not been trying to salvage the rest of my wedding day. I've never been so embarresed in my life. I suggest going somewhere else all together (at these prices a dinner cruise may be in order), but if you must book with her get a written contract (but dont wait for it in the mail like we did) or you will end up sick to your stomach like we did on our wedding day. The valet parking guy was awesome to everyone.
