Dental Sealants
Check with your dentist about use of supplemental fluoride, which strengthens your teeth, and about use of dental sealants (a plastic protective coating) applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth to protect them from decay.

Fillings
Because amalgam fillings can withstand very high chewing loads, they are particularly useful for restoring molars in the back of the mouth where chewing load is greatest. They are also useful in areas where a cavity preparation is difficult to keep dry during the filling replacement, such as in deep fillings below the gum line. Amalgam fillings, like other filling materials, are considered biocompatible—they are well tolerated by patients with only rare occurrences of allergic response.
Resin Composite
Direct restorations are fillings placed immediately into a prepared cavity in a single visit. They include dental amalgam, resin ionomers and some resin composite fillings. The dentist prepares the tooth, places the filling and adjusts it during one appointment. Later adjustments may be necessary.

Crowns
Placement of crowns can correct bite problems created by worn-out fillings or severe abrasion secondary to tooth grinding. We are known for the high quality of our work and have had some amazing results. It is not unusual for these treatments to last more than 10 years. Smoking, tooth grinding and poor oral hygiene will significantly reduce longevity.
Bridges
Indirect restorations generally require two or more visits. They include inlays, onlays, veneers, crowns and bridges fabricated with gold, base metal alloys, ceramics or composites. During the first visit, the dentist prepares the tooth and makes an impression of the area to be restored. The impression is sent to a dental laboratory, which creates the dental restoration. At the next appointment, usually two weeks later, the dentist cements the restoration into the prepared cavity and adjusts it as needed.
Dental Bonding
The technology of composite tooth bonding materials is wonderful, as far as the beauty that it can bring to your teeth. Still, with all that has been done, there are some limitations to the materials of which you need to be aware. How long bonding lasts depends on many factors that are unique to the individual. Many people will go for ten or fifteen years and have the bonding look as good as the day it was put in. Some people will get staining on the margins of the bonding after one or two years and will need some touch-up work. If you take care of it well, it would be unusual to ever have to replace it, but some touch-up work would be normal after three to five years

Root Canal Treatment
The pulp or pulp chamber is the soft area within the center of the tooth. The tooth’s nerve lies within root canals, which lie within the roots or “legs” of the tooth. The root canals travel from the tip of the tooth’s root into the pulp chamber, which also contains blood vessels and connective tissue that nourish the tooth. A tooth’s nerve is not vitally important to a tooth’s health and function after the tooth has emerged through the gums. Its only function is sensory – to provide the sensation of hot or cold. The presence or absence of a nerve will not affect the day-to-day functioning of the tooth.

Deep Cleaning
Gum disease is a serious issue that affects more than sixty-four million people in the United States. It can be treated with a deep cleaning treatment, which removes build-up such as calculus, debris and bacteria that is present under the gums.

Dentures
A small amount of bleeding is to be expected following the operation. If bleeding occurs, place a gauze pad directly over the bleeding socket and apply biting pressure for 30 minutes. If bleeding continues, a moist tea bag can be used for 30 minutes. Avoid hot liquids, exercise, and elevate the head. If bleeding persists, call our office immediately. If you have had an immediate denture placement, do not remove the denture. You can expect some oozing around the side of the denture. If it comes out, replace it immediately; otherwise your gums could swell preventing you from replacing the denture. After you have seen your dentist, take out the denture and rinse 3 to 4 times and rinse gently with warm salt water or as otherwise directed.

After tooth extraction, it’s important for a blood clot to form to stop the bleeding and begin the healing process. That’s why we ask you to bite on a gauze pad for 30-45 minutes after the appointment. If the bleeding or oozing still persists, place another gauze pad and bite firmly for another 30 minutes. You may have to do this several times.
