Founded in 1977, Dr. Mike Overend and Dr. Lucy Grina have owned and operated the clinic for the past 25 years. The support staff has over 50 years of combined experience in the veterinary field. We know that your pet will benefit from good health the same way that you do; they will live longer, be more active and happy, and have a better quality of life. People who care about their pets understand this and are looking for the benefits of good veterinary care. Human dentistry developed as a distinct field of medicine to provide both preventive and problem-specific care. Anyone who knows the intense misery of a dental problem from a “toothache” or infected gums will tell you how desperate they were for relief from their pain, and how much they wished for a dentist to help them immediately. Vaccinations, good nutrition, parasite control, and advances in veterinary care are allowing pets to live many times longer than a dog, cat, horse, pet rabbit, or rodent living in the wild. Along with this longevity, the wide variety of breeds has contributed to the development of a number of dental diseases and problems.
Behavioral Disorder Treatment
We provide both core and optional vaccines for dogs and cats. The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) recommends that all dogs receive canine distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus, parainfluenza, and rabies vaccinations. Core vaccines for cats include feline distemper, feline calicivirus, feline herpes, and rabies. Puppies and kittens should receive their first set of vaccines by eight weeks of age. We also offer Bordetella, leptospirosis, chlamydia, feline leukemia, and Giardia vaccinations.

Heart Disease Treatment
General Anesthesia includes IV fluid therapy and monitoring. Your pet’s anesthesia will be individualized to their specific needs. All patients are monitored continuously on a multiparameter unit which monitors their heart rate, respiratory rate, CO2 levels, temperature, the electrical conductivity of the heart (EKG), and blood pressure. We make necessary changes with anesthesia to keep your pet safe during the procedure.
Kidney Disease Treatment
Although the age at which dogs and cats are considered a senior can vary by breed, we like to start seeing pets for bi-annual exams around age seven. Like people, older pets have an increased risk of kidney disease, heart disease, cancer, diabetes, liver disease, senility, and general weakness. Staying on top of these issues helps improve the quality of life for your pet in the senior years. Mobility challenges and behavior changes are also more common with older pets.
Periodontal Disease Treatment
Jaw fractures are typically seen in pets with trauma (such as being hit by a car, big dog, little dog fights, or related to periodontal disease). We will perform a thorough workup of your pet’s issues including full mouth dental radiographs to assess the dentition and location of the fracture. Treatments may include interosseous wire (wire placed into the bone to allow for appropriate jaw alignment), intradental splint (wiring and acrylic material) or various other techniques to assist in your pet’s healing. Any wire or splints which aid in immobilizing the fracture site will require surgical removal after the fracture has healed.

Wound and Fracture Care
Pet Hospice care can give you days, weeks, and sometimes months to spend with your pet before he or she passes on. Our Hospice services include education on your pet’s health, the possibility of a natural death option, pain recognition, supplemental nutrition, understanding terminal diseases, incontinence, wound care, and the end-stage process. We can also help alleviate your pet’s pain.

Dr. Grace knows that providing comprehensive oral care for companion animals is one of the most beneficial activities that she can perform for her patients. She is excited about the opportunity to offer advances in veterinary medicine to her patients. She also looks forward to educating and sharing her knowledge and skills with her colleagues, clients, and the community and to provide exceptional dentistry and oral surgery in the Northland.
Veterinary Surgery
Dr. Marissa Blomstrand grew up in Shoreview, Minnesota, just outside of the Twin Cities. She discovered Veterinary Medicine in college, where she fell in love with it and began to work towards becoming a veterinarian. She graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Animal Science in 2011, and then went on to Mississippi State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, where she earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2018. Dr. Marissa’s special interests in veterinary medicine include soft tissue surgery, emergency/urgent care, and preventative medicine.

Additional benefits of sterilization include a longer lifespan, reduced risk of mammary gland and testicular cancer, no heat cycles or roaming behavior, and less aggressive behavior by both males and females.
