Mathews Elementary school is a very sad environment for a child to be in. There are some teaches who has portrayed less than professional behavior. I have had a teacher who hung up the phone in my face, after i questioned her about her behavior toward my child. after slamming her had on the cafeteria table, while yelling inappropriately in my child's face. My child has constantly dealt with severe bullying and physical assaults from other students One of with caused facial bruising, resulting with having my child examined by her physician. The school's policy states that a child can not be counted as absent if the child is checked out after 11:30, especially for any medical condition that is deemed important. But, my child was stilled counter as absent, even after her 11:30 check-out time, due medical conditions. My child had ADHD, and is apart of the Special Education program, and I have had IEP meeting concerning her education and all Special Education matters. But this year I have not had not one single IEP meeting, even though my child is still in the program. I have not been in informed of what she is being taught, what is the goal the Special Education program has set for my child, or how often, is any, my child is attending her Special Education class. This school SEVERELY lacks of the things that they do, and how they ho by doing things. If your child is experiencing any of theses things at Mathews Elementary School, contact ADAP, just like I have. I am in the process of informing them of all incidents that has occurred at this school, in making sure that teachers, school officials, and school policies are looked into, and what the next step will be. It's amazing how the Tuscaloosa City School Board resolved, help, and apply the parents with great resolutions when these kinds of issues arise. While the County School Board lacks GREATLY, while covering up the sad actions of the teachers, and the school itself.
