St. John Center for Women's Health - Making Women's Health a Priority

General Info
Breast cancer kills more than 40,000 Americans each year, but the disease can be cured if found and treated early. Since 1974, the St. John Breast Center has provided women with a wide array of cancer educational materials and emotional support. St. John was the first in Tulsa to offer all digital mammography. This state-of-the-art technology offers advantages to patients and physicians alike, with shorter exam times and images that can display breast abnormalities at an earlier stage. Beyond digital mammography, our comprehensive center offers breast ultrasound, biopsies and bone density scans. Traditional and new minimally-invasive biopsy options are available. Free breast self-examination instruction is also available. Monthly breast self-examination is a life-saving routine that allows women to detect breast changes early and seek medical intervention. All women are at risk for developing breast cancer, but some factors can increase your likelihood of developing the disease. Risk factors include a family history of cancer, a long menstrual life (early onset of menstruation and late menopause), not bearing children or having a first child after age 30 and chronic benign breast problems. Having any or all of these risk factors does not mean you will develop breast cancer; however, women should be aware of their status and alert for early signs of disease. To schedule an appointment at any of the Breast Center locations, call (918) 744-3000.

Avoid the ER like the plague unless you are in cardiac arrest or bleeding out rapidly. Even in slow periods "They" will make people wait for over 5 hours because "That's the national average!"

I have been to the St. John's emergency room in Tulsa probably 3 times in the last 5 years or so. The waiting time for emergency service is unbelievable, to say the least. Everytime that I have went, the wait time gets longer and longer. This last time I had been sick for some time and I passed out at Walgreens when I went to get get my prescriptions filled. An ambulance was called and they took me to St. John's emergency room. We arrived at approximately 4:30 p.m. I still hadn't been seen by a Dr. or nurse at 9:30 p.m. So I told them to take the I.V. out of my arm that the ambulance service had put in my arm and I left. I spent all of that time there for nothing. There were other sick people that had been waiting for many hours and some of them left also. Something needs to be done about the way that they let sick people wait for hours and hours. People come to the emergency room because they need immediate help. I will not ever go to St. John's emergency room again. And I advise everybody not to go there if you need immediate help. You have to be dead, almost dead, or dying before you can be seen within a appropriate amount of time.
