I was invited along with other family to celebrate my Dad's 84th birthday. After reading the reviews from this site and others I was very aprehensive about what to expect. It is true that even with a reservation (at least for the Hibatchi grill) you're not seated till all your party is present. That seems completely reasonable to me since your food is prepared in front of you while you are seated around the grill. The chef who prepared our food gave a wonderful show along with making us one delicious dinner. You get plenty to eat; and if you go away hungary it's definitely your fault. The waitress and chef were very nice. My husband and I will definitely go back; and will consider this restaurant as somewhere to take our out of town guests for a special treat. The cost may be a little more than what other restaurants may charge; but is not at all out of line for the amount of delicious food you get and the show you get with the chef's antics in preparing it. All in all very, very enjoyable. A good time, good food and nice staff for sure. Would suggest an earlier reservation; and that everybody be on time. They are a very busy restaurant; and rightly so---they have earned it. Bon Appetit!

Order the Osaka house with Fried Rice. We eat here at least once a week and have been regulars since 2005. The 51st street location was a little more cozy and had a much better atmosphere. The only advantage to the 81st street location is the addition of Sushi to the menu. The Graduation Roll is awesome. The new location definately leaves something to be desired in the service department. Basically if you don't have reservations, the service is horrible at best, but the food is well worth it. As with any real teppanyaki place the cook makes a difference, but overall the cooks are very good. Having lived in Japan for 4 years I have a lot of experience with Japanese food and sushi. I have tried all the normal locations in most major cities across the US and have found none better than Osaka. Try it now.
The place is clean and modern. Several reviews I read prior to going turned me off to the place because they said there was bad customer service there, but the chief and the wait staff were very very nice. The libations took a little long, and the rice was a little cheap tasting but all-and-all it was great.
