First. Many have told this old man does not understand the concept of texting. To deliver a short and concise message. I write novels so here is "War and Peace" in the form of praise. I'm an almost sixty year old man with health issues. Some minor and some major. I decided to work on my bucket list. As the poet said "I will not go quietly into the night". I've been skydiving seven times leading up to my dream of doing a HALO jump (high altitude, low oxygen) in less than two weeks in Memphis. I also decided to grow my hair long. Now I grew a full beard at the age of 13 and it grew in gray. My poor mother hated it but it did get me into most of the liquor stores in Tulsa. My grandfather had a beautiful head of silver hair. Always prayed mine would look like that. But time is no longer my friend so thats another thing on my bucket list I wanted to achieve. I searched on YELP for the best salon in Tulsa and found Ethan Monroe Studios. I called and spoke with Rachel ( a bright ray of sunshine ) and explained my desires. Many singers in my time were dubbed "the silver fox". I'm a pragmatic realist. I do not consider myself a handsome man nor even claim average. But I'm prettier than a stick in mud so I told her if I could achieve "the silver Platypus " look I'd be very happy. Yesterday I had my appointment and will admit several times I started to stop and go home. I wasn't just stepping out of my comfort zone. I was pole vaulting out of it. I had truly the honor and privilege of my "case" being handled by Ethan himself. First the location of the salon is perfect. Easy access to main roads and I44. When you enter the salon you can tell much thought went into details. Soft colors and smooth straight lines. Not minimalist nor ostentatious but the perfect blend to enhance comfort. The staff are all warm and welcoming in attitude and you truly feel like your in a family environment - without the dysfunction! Mr. Monroe has made sure to surround himself with like minded artist whose individuality and creative talents are encouraged and nurtured. And they are artist in their own right. Having been a Comercial art major but switching to health care I do understand. Each "individual " who comes through the door presents a different canvas with its own complexities. Quantity, texture, damage. Numerous factors apply coupled with the desire of the patron. So they are artist in their own right with each bringing their own specialty to the table. If you seek a "cookie cutter" approach to your hair this may not be for you. Each stylist wants you to leave happy. With a little added pep in your step and they would rather do 5 or 6 fantastic jobs than churn out 20 avarage ones. While there I saw an eclectic blend of customers come and go. From a power walking grandmother with beautiful white hair getting a "tune-up". Business men sprucing up an already polished look to young females seeking change in both color and cut. Then the likes of me. I can now say as a man that I understand why women feel so much better after having left a beauty salon. The psychology involved but I never thought the phrase " I just came from the beauty salon" would pass my lips. My fairly long hair was medium brown with a little gray. I had no idea of the process - just the prayed for outcome. Will admit after the "lightening process" that I was scared. At best I looked like in my mind like a very ugly French assassin. Now my fear was after the silver coloring was done I'd leave looking like Colonel Sanders. My mind was put at ease. No rush was put on my care. In fact a scheduled 2 hour appointment turned into almost 4 hours. Ethan insisted it be nothing short of excellent. And it is! Pricing is competitive and you most definitely get your money's worth and more. Must say I went in a very apprehensive old man and left feeling absolutely great. While in my mind I'm not "the silver fox", neither am I "the silver Platypus ". I'd say more a "silver honey badger"
I had my eyeliner and eyebrows done by Mychelle a couple of months ago and I just love it. She is very professional and gentle. I felt completely comfortable and relaxed the entire time. The healing process was a little gross, but not too bad if you keep on top of caring for it as she instructs. It went by pretty quickly. I would recommend at least 3-4 days off work just so that the swelling isn't too noticable. I still can't believe how great the liner looks and it saves me so much time in the morning not having to draw it on and trying to get it perfect. Now it's just there every morning - already perfectly drawn on! My eyes always watered a lot too, so it was impossible to have any eyeliner left by the end of the day. It's so comforting to know that no matter how much my eyes water, my eyeliner will still be there looking like it was just freshly applied. Recently I went on a week-long camping trip and it was really nice to know that even when my hair was a mess and all my other make-up had worn off, I still at least had eye liner and eye brows on! It really helps me look a lot better in those situations. I absolutely love it and wish that I could have all of my make-up done permanently!!!!
Mychelle Tulk is without a doubt the best permanent makeup artist around! Mychelle is very talented, professional and truly the best. She is very knowledgeable and works very hard to make sure everyone gets the results they expect. I did a lot of research before deciding to have permanent make up done, it was not something I did without serious thought. I read all I could about procedures and techniques before choosing Mychelle. When I found her website and began reading there was no doubt I would not have anyone else do my makeup. Because I wanted it to look natural not like a tattoo and I wanted it to be perfect we drove from Illinois to Tulsa to have Mychelle do my makeup. The procedure because of Mychelle's talent and knowledge was flawless. The experience was stress free and excellent. I would recommend her to anyone who wants permanent makeup she is absolutely the only person I would ever have do it! I am actually taking a friend to her next month because she loved mine so much she wanted her done too!
I took my 21 month old son in for his first haircut. The toys were great in the waiting area. The little boy before us was older and it was his first time too. He screamed the whole time then got a lock of hair when he left. When it was our turn MrWill didn't even say hi to my son. We sat him down, threw the cape on and brought out the clippers before I could tell him that I didn't want to cut it too short. He got mad when I told him I didn't want clippers. I was too scared to tell him that I wanted it just a bit shorter when he was done. He was in such a hurry. When it was over I asked for a lock of hair since it was his first cut. Will said "we'll, you didn't tell me that." Not the most gentle guy. The cut looks good even though its too long. The waiting area is great but he was WAY too harsh for a nervous mama that wasn't even sure about getting his hair cut and a scared little boy.
Fabulous shop -- two ladies and two gentlemen, Lynton Moore, who does ethnic (Black) hair, but has many repeat Caucasian clients as well. A couple regular customers of his moved here from Italy. He has several who arrive from neighboring states. His business has flourished via word-of-mouth testimonials due to his specialty in ladies' haircuts, color, perms, etc. After Mr. Moore gave me a hair weave, I put before/after pix on his Facebook page. He did a phenomenal job! Nina is fabulous with perms, color and haircuts (ladies and men's). Pory's specialty is fusion, which is a step up from a weave, and Roger does haircuts almost exclusively. Part-timer and recent mom Vivian is pedicurist and manicurist. They all do children's hair. Do yourself a favor and visit Salon in the Park. Others will see you in a whole new light!
I had eyeliner done back in 2000 by Mychelle when she hadn’t been doing it all that long. It was pretty cheap since she wasn’t charging much back then. A couple years ago I decided to get permanent makeup eyebrows. Mychelle’s prices had soared since back when, so I went to another newbie for brows. I didn’t think twice about it since all went well with the eyeliner and Mychelle was a newbie back then. Well, my eyebrow ordeal was a disaster. The shape and the color was screwy. I tried to hide it with concealer. Finally I called Mychelle about fixing my eyebrows and redoing my eyeliner since it had faded off quite a bit in 8 years. My eyebrows are good now. My eyeliner is awesome. The new implanting techniques she created are so much better than just eyeliner lines with one shade. The graduating tones make a ton of difference.
I am shocked to hear about the experiences of these other ladies. I myself had been going to Creative Image for years. Lisa does my hair and I have always received a great haircuts and highlights. I have however noticed that through the years Lisa has suffered from many stylists that were not trained properly. She has gone to extensive educational seminars to train these stylists to provide great service. She has told me how difficult it was to find qualified stylists in the last few years. My opinion would be to use her or her daughter which my daughter has used for 3 years. We are extremely pleased with them and we always get compliments on our haircuts and highlights..I would refer all my friends and family to Lisa and Ashley.
I used to get my hair cut by Carmelita at Monkey Bizness on a regular basis. She did a great job with cut and color, but at each appointment she would run farther and farther behind. She would tell me to go check out some of the shops in the complex they're in while she finished up. Once I waited 40 minutes! She didn't show up for our last appointment and no one could supposedly get ahold of her. She didn't bother to call me to let me know she was running late or wasn't coming in, which was a big waste of my time and gas, not to mention it was storming like crazy that morning. She never bothered to call me back to apologize or to reschedule, so needless to say I found someone else who is a lot more considerate and on time.
Bobby is the best! She's been doing my hair since I was 15 years old, 19 years now. I made appointments with her for my trips home from D.C. and still travel from the OKC area for her to do my hair. She's always been a very good listener about my needs and desires and I can show her any picture of what I want for her to duplicate. She's even cautioned me a time or two over the years when I've wanted to "shave it all off". She's never let me do anything to my hair that I might regret, telling me I can always come back if I want it shorter. For these reasons, I think she's an excellent slylist, and also a very dear friend. I would recommend her to anyone.
Lindsay has been doing my hair for many years for a reason! I trust no one else to do my color and highlights. I even scheduled my appointments out every 8 weeks for an entire year while she was living in NYC and traveling back to Tulsa to take clients! I'm soooo happy she is back in Tulsa so I can sneak in for a quick blow dry or weekend updo. The salon is new and I love the atmosphere. Its chic, modern, and I love all the stylists too! Only thing is, they don't have a salon phone, so I contact her via her cell 918-813-1110...but I love that I can text her and avoid frustrating phone tag. Tell her Khloe referred you for 25% off your entire service!
