Stay somewhere else. Anywhere else. I had a horrible experience checking in. The employee at the front desk, I think her name was Deborah, was (unprovoked) the rudest customer service person I've ever encountered. She seemed annoyed to have to serve a potential customer. She was so rude that I finally walked out without getting a room. I had to go across the street to the Super 8 to get a room. They were great.

An ok place to stay. Delilah at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. I would stay here again.
The reviews I saw like the one below and I took a chance on this motel. It was not at all like what I read.Sheets and blankets were dirty with hair and bugs. Carpet was grimy. Furniture and bed were placed in the room so that there was less than a foot space to get to the restroom.
I was looking for a clean cheap motel when I entered Tucumcari. I found myself exploring the options in the downtown historic Route 66. Just on luck alone I took notice to the Americana Motel located at 406 E Route 66 Boulevard. What I saw was a nostalgic neon sighn advertising rooms for $27.95 per night for a single. I pulled in expecting to be disappointed and what I found was... I could have paid more somewhere else for a lot less. I walked into the office and felt a sense of history. The first person I met was the owners wife who greeted me with a smile. I asked for a single room with a monthly rate. This is where I met Sam the owner of the motel. We came to a price I could afford and the hand shake transpired. On the way to my room, I couldn't help but notice how clean the entire parking lot I was still skeptical as I turned the key to my room with hesitation. As the door opened I found a very clean and dust free room. A large flat screen TV capable of receiving over 100 supreme channels, A walk in closet, A love seat that was in very good condition, A microwave, A refridgerator, A nearly new air conditioner, A walk in closet,, If you open the second door I found a dinning table. A full range, and a full size refridgorator. My next plight was the bathroom. The shower is second to none. Large enough for three people. The walls are thick and in good repair eliminating all the outside noise you might hear in other expensive motels. The offer a daily continental breakfast with plenty of coffee on hand. Only being here three days, I had my door cracked and the owner from across the parking called me by name and said good morning. Wi-Fi is available and to my surprise the have a laundry mat for the guests for $1.75 per load. When you rent a room here...You become family. Again something I haven't seen much in the larger motels at twice the cost. If you really want to experience the history of the famous highway of our nation... This motel will set the ambiance you are looking for. The location is to mention also.... with-in a couple of blocks is a Lowes supermarket, A Circle K, and four blocks from here is the museum. You will want to walk this to get the full impact of the cowboy days. Should I ever return to Tucumcari..... You will find me at the Americana motel. I rank this a 5 star. Tom Meadows.
Woke up covered in welts from bedbugs, had to go to hospital from allergic reaction to bites. Caught three adult bed bugs from my pillow. I even made a YouTube video as proof if you want to see it. Before reporting them to the health department and seeking damages via a civil suit- I thought I'd share via Google. The owner of the place denied that they were from history hotel, but I saw these nasty creatures for the first time in my life crawling up the walls of this place, and on and under my pillows. AVOID AT ALL POSSIBLE COSTS!!
I had checked into the Gateway Inn on 3/1/12 and was supposed to checkout on 3/3/12. However the rooms were not cleaned due to a lot of non-vacancy. The second day I was there, on 3/2/12, I was bitten by a Black Widow spider while I was sleeping on the bed in my Gateway Inn hotel room, Room 112. I was bitten on my left hand, which swelled up with a set of puncture wounds. The venomous bite rendered me unconscious and paralyzed. Needless to say that I did not check out on 3/3/12. The hotel manager, Subhash, tried to contact me by knocking on my door. When I did not answer, he called the Tucumcari police. The Sergeant found me lying on my bed and my skin was "cold to the touch". He said that my body temperature was less than 80 degrees. Sergeant Schaeffer immediately brought me into his police ambulance and rushed me to the Presbyterian hospital. Unfortunately the hospital did not have the equipment to save my life, so I had to be brought by helicopter over 138 miles to a bigger and better hospital in Amarillo Texas, the Northwest Texas Healthcare System. This is where I woke up on 3/3/12 in the ICU wing after being unconscious for almost 24 hours. I was given tests for weeks and treated back to health. I also needed physical therapy. Now I have over $120,000 in medical bills. It's been 4 months since my stay there and I am still not fully healed. I do not recommend this hotel to anyone who values their life.
