Vaccination
During our standard exam, we’ll review your horse’s medical history, check his or her heart, lungs, stomach sounds, eyes and mouth. We’ll make recommendations for optimal care and diet, and ensure your horse is current on vaccinations.
Deworming and Treatment for Internal Parasites Unfortunately, all horses are susceptible to worms and other internal parasites. Regular manure testing and/or deworming is a crucial part of your horse’s health. We’ll review your current regimen of deworming medications and possibly prescribe new ones.
Skin Condition and Allergy Treatment
In some cases a mares milk can be toxic and lead to severe illness. If left untreated can result in the death of the foal. Neonatal isoerythrolysis (NI), aslo know as jaundice foal syndrome, is a rare disease that may occur in a foal if the mother has antibodies against the red blood cell type of the newborn foal. Foals are normal at birth and are only affected if they ingest colostrum with anti-RBC antibodies directed against their own red blood cells. If the foal has the same blood type as its mother, there is not a problem. NI occurs if the foal inherits the blood type of its father and if the mare’s antibodies are sequestered into colostrum, the first “mother’s milk” the foal will suckle. Exposure to theses antibodies puts susceptible foals at risk.
Treatment for Congenital Conditions Some horses may have a congenital condition, ranging from hypothyroidism to stationary night blindness. We’ll diagnose your horse’s problems and make our best treatment recommendations.
Common emergencies involving the musculoskeletal system include fractures, luxation’s, lacerations, puncture wounds, synovial infections, and exertional rhabdomyolysis or “tying up”. Wound evaluation and identification of structures involved is necessary, with the aid of radiographs. Management involves appropriate use of medications and bandages. An accurate diagnosis and provision of appropriate emergency treatment are essential to set the stage for a successful outcome. In addition, we offer Shockwave and ANICELL BIOTECH STEMCELLS as treatment modalities. Patients requiring extensive care and/or surgery will be referred.
In-Clinic Bloodwork We offer in-clinic blood work for patients who are medically ill or just want to know your horse’s normal bloodwork. In-clinic bloodwork allows immediate diagnosis and treatment for equines.
X-Ray
Radiology Digital radiographs diagnose problems quickly; leading to faster, more effective treatment. Digital radiography allows our doctor to consult with specialists on certain cases and allows us to send copies of your animal's radiographs with you for your records.
Bandalero Ranch has well groomed covered and open air rings, friendly staff and clean stalls. During our three years we have never experienced a problem with boarding services. Bandalero Ranch runs a tight ship! The on-site veterinary office has also been very useful and Dr. Alicia Lindholm is an excellent vet.
