This was a very disappointing experience that resulted in both hair loss and braids that had to be taken out in less than 24 hrs after they were put in. I read the 2 reviews and decided to take a chance based on the precautions n the review. I called and indicated that I had read the reviews and wanted a professional experienced braided to do my hair. I made the appointment, arrived on time and waited about 45 minutes before they could take me. As the operator was preparing the hair for me I said that since my hair is not thick, I didn't want a mass of added hair just something consistent with my mane. I left at 9am at night as the last customer with enough hair to do 2 or 3 heads. The twist were disturbingly thick, the operator pull the entire front of my hair out and she spent the last hour and 1/2 on the phone while doing my hair. So in professional. I paid 150 us a 10 dollar tip (LESS THAN 10%) because I wasn't satisfied. It wasn't until I got home that I could see how bad it was. I pected some discomfort because after all they are braids and I expect them to be a little uncomfortable. However these braids were so heavy (measuring 20 inches in circumference when drawn together. It took a week before my scalp felt normal and the front edge of my hair is now ruined until it grows back. Some of the other stylist did a professional job. But the stylist I received even after expressing concern ruin my hair. Proceed with caution if you choose to use this place. By the way my hair is natural so I should not have experienced breakage normally associated with processed hair.
If I could give them a O I would . The people that work here are rude and inconsiderate , I will NEVER GO BACK . There's a dark skinned woman that works there she's very rude impatient and very very mean.. She doesn't give you a chance to tell her what you want . She just wants ur money . Shes very lazy she doesn't like to work . I suggest you go to flokay or aminas . I had Senegalese twists and they were trying to mess up my hair and laughing at me . these people don't care .
After being treated terribly at Sehias on Broad Street I came here. I called first and explained to the lady that my hair was short and I'd like to come by to see if someone there could braid it( I knew they could). She tells me yes and that her hair is also short and she braids her hair all the time. Cool. I went outside to get my hair and snack and came back in. 10m later in walks the lady who is to do my hair. I tell her I want box braids, I chose the size and showed her the hair. She begins immediately it's about 9:15/a. Things are going good other than her taking repeated phone calls. Things are going good about 3 hrs in, then all of a sudden I hear this huffing and puffing as if she's tired. About another hour goes by and she now has a problem with the hair I chose. Please! I showed her the hair before she began... Again just lazy! I begin to see that my hair isn't braided correctly in the middle... She's overweight, tired and rushing. I'm upset so I ask the other lady are they suppose to look like this and she and I both knew the answer but she said when she puts mouse on it it'll be ok. I don't know about anyone else but I don't spend $150 on anything for it to be ok. Anyway, she's done, I gather my things, pay her and vowed to never go back and if I do, I'll go see the lady who I spoke to on the phone. Looking back I shouldn't have been in a hurry and I should've just made an appointment with her. So ladies, if you want to go here... When you walk in and go down the steps AVOID the lady whose station is on the LEFT. The lady on the right in the first chair is awesome, I saw her work. Also, she's likely who you'd speak to when you call. The lady in the 3rd chair on the right Is awesome... She did some beautiful Senegalese twist. If you don't want to hear them complain, use their hair but if your scalp tends to itch do as I did. I bought my hair, soaked it for 20m in Apple cider vineager rinsed all the chemicals off( white film) and let it air dry. The hair was soft and manageable. My scalp thanks me because it is not itching as you know synthetic hair is known for. Anyway we learn from our mistakes, I'm a little disappointed because this is my first experience with box braids. Good luck ladies and check out my review on Sehias on S. Broad ST.
Let me begin by stating that I've never had box braids, or twists of any kind. My reason for getting them is that I am pregnant and don't want to have to worry about my hair while caring for a newborn. That aside, I chose this place due to the most recent review and they aren't far from my home. I called and made an appointment several days in advance. My appointment was for Monday, they open at 8:30a but I was told over the phone to be there at 8a. My husband dropped me off so that he could take our daughter to school... The door is locked! I knock and after several minutes I call. The lady I made the appointment with answers the phone and I tell her I'm here and that I'm standing outside. 10m go by of me standing in the cold and I call her back only for her to tell me that she isn't there and she doesn't know where the other lady is but she should be there soon. 10m later a lady walks up with a nasty demeanor (as if I'm the problem. When I walk in I'm greeted by an intense smell of mildew and filth. She seems even more upset and begins cleaning her station. After another 15m she's finally ready, I temive my scarf and she tells me that my hair is too short. It took everything in me not to call this woman everything but a child of God. Mind you I big chopped back in October its February and I'm pregnant so I've got a good 7 inches of hair, she was just lazy. I told her not a problem, gathered my things and said I'll be going to the shop on Hamilton Ave. This establishment is very un professional and lazy and will never get business from me. Goodluck ladies!! Check my review for J&C on Hamilton Ave.
Ive been going to Sehia's for years and also take my daughter's....never had a problem with them
Unfortunately I don't know the name of the main stylist who did my hair, but i would not go back to get my braids at this shop. The two stylists (another girl helped the main stylist ) who did my hair were unprofessional as they talked away the entire time and weren't particularly skilled braiders plus i was overcharged. In all fairness I randomly called the store for a last minute appointment so I probably just ended up with a braider that no one else wanted:(The only positive thing about my visit is that i was done in 2hrs so clearly the braiders were quick.
